Business Studies Tutor Kirwan, QLD
One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only teach content but to be there as a mentor. Exam periods, life and post-school options can all be stressful for students and it is vital that a tutor can mentor students throughout this through stress mechanisms. This, coupled with effective teaching methods and provision…

Local Reviews

Everything seems to be going well so far. There was a lot of laughter at this week’s session. That’s got to be a good sign! I asked Oscar why he had fun with Nick and not me. He said “I don’t mean to offend you Mum, but Nick knows what he’s doing!”. How’s that for a testimonial?

Inside Bohle PlainsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sophia worked through simplifying index laws and order of operations, as well as evaluating decimals from recent school test material.

For Year 9, Eve focused on all trigonometry questions and tackled similarity and congruence problems from her past exam, with targeted guidance on both familiar and unfamiliar question types.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Isaac concentrated on chemistry, specifically ionic and covalent bond interactions, determining compound types, and writing correct chemical formulas.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student entered a session unprepared, lacking their online textbook, which slowed progress and made it difficult to refer quickly to examples ("he was just a bit unprepared for the session as he did not have his online textbook open").

In Year 10 Chemistry, one student struggled with organizing assessment resources and couldn't locate the most updated task sheet when needed.

A Year 8 learner missed several homework assignments in a row, leaving less time for feedback and consolidation of skills.

For Year 12 English, another hesitated to revise drafts, avoiding stylistic changes that could make arguments more sophisticated.

Recent Achievements

One Bohle Plains tutor noticed Jacinta, a Year 11 student, arriving at her English session with all body paragraphs written and feedback from her schoolteacher already in hand—a big shift from earlier weeks when she hesitated to draft without help.

In Year 9, Ntando has started asking questions as soon as she's unsure rather than waiting until the end of the lesson; this openness is new for her and means tricky algebra now gets tackled straight away.

For a younger win, Eve (Year 7) was able to spot where she went wrong on a recent maths test after reviewing just two exercises together. Eve independently identified her errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

At this stage we are very happy. Nick likes Tharaka and his overall attitude to maths has changed. He is quite happy to give things a go. His confidence is building.

Suparna is lovely and very patient and Sitota is very happy with her. I think it will take a good few months before we see any progress with Sitota considering her learning difficulties. All positive and we are moving forward though

Mo is a lovely girl and Ashleigh seems to be benefitting a great deal from her tutoring sessions with her. Ashleigh is fairly motivated and I'm sure by the time exams come around there will be a noticeable difference in her capabilities. Mo and Ashleigh interact quite well and Ashleigh is much more confident about what she is doing after her sessions. All in all, at this stage we couldn't be happier with the way things are going.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Riverway—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Benedict's Catholic School.
