Inside BoovalTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aria focused on multiplication strategies using real-life scenarios and worked on converting multiplication to repeated addition, as well as identifying odd and even numbers.

Year 9 student Mia practised solving trigonometry word problems involving sine, cosine, and tangent ratios, along with applying these concepts to calculate surface area of prisms and cylinders using formulas.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Liam tackled cumulative frequency curves and box plots for comparing data sets, alongside interpreting probability questions using Venn diagrams and two-way tables.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student relied heavily on mental calculations during algebra, often skipping written steps—"she tried to do it in her head and didn't say anything when she got stuck"—which led to repeated errors, especially near the end of sessions.

In Year 7, a student lost confidence after struggling with long division above single digits, hesitating to attempt questions without encouragement.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner's focus waned during multi-step word problems; distractions like nearby toys made sustained effort difficult and limited exposure to unfamiliar question types.

Missed or incomplete homework was noted for senior students in probability revision, delaying progress on new material.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Booval noticed that a Year 10 student, Connor, who previously doubted his ability with trigonometry word problems, now solves them accurately and even completed all his homework questions correctly for the first time.

Max, another high schooler, initially hesitated when tackling angle problems in polygons but managed to work through them independently after some guidance—a big step from relying on hints every time.

Meanwhile, Isla in primary school has started self-correcting her mistakes during tests instead of waiting for help and recently retook a maths test, missing only one question compared to several before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Daniel as a tutor is a very good fit (perfect) for Sid! We are quite happy with the way things are progressing so far & happy to continue.

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter just finished her first tutoring session with Derek and he was fantastic! Thank you so much for connecting us with him, things are looking up already.

Jessica has been great, she has helped Ben quite a bit already and identified problems and strengths.  She is punctual and diligent.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ipswich Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
