The most important thing in tutoring in my opinion is to understand your audiences and customise your approach based on that. in order to be an effective tutor, someone needs to connect to their students. Some are introverted while others are extroverted. They come with different backgrounds, confidence level, and mental abilities. In the end, a…

I believe a teacher can either make or break a student and I've seen both scenarios happen around me. I believe as a tutor the most important thing I can do is boost their confidence or build it from scratch if they have no confidence at all. Be a good friend and to create a stress-free, comfortable environment for my students. I have handled a…

I think the most important goal as a tutor is to create a positive environment for a student. Being patient, understanding and maintaining a positive attitude has a wide array of benefits, including learning. Second to this is the ability to help a student gain an instinctive understanding of the concept manner. More than just helping with…

Its a very open question in my point of view but, if I want to say it as brief as I can its backing them up making them reach a certain level and then teaching them how to fish instead of just giving them fish and when they learn how to fish giving them tips for catching bigger fish. I believe a tutor should know phycology so he/she knows how to…

The most important thing the tutor can do is create a safe trustworthy environment. The student should feel that the tutoring lessons are a session where they are allowed to make mistakes, as mistakes are crucial in the process of learning. The tutor should make is to make the lessons actually interactive and reasonably challenging for the…

In the best case, having a brilliant tutor allows a student to create a pathway and a future in a…

The best thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand the student's academic needs and address them in a very professional way. Most of the times, teachers and tutors don't listen to the problems of the individuals in their class and hence those problems often remain unsolved. In my point of view, every student has potential and a…

Inside Box Hill SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Summer practised reading aloud with expressive punctuation and worked on multiplication, division, and order of operations using BIDMAS.

In Year 9, Jolie completed a timed selective-school style maths test and reviewed errors in both ACER Maths and Science practice questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student covered simultaneous equations from the Cambridge VCE Methods 1&2 textbook and was introduced to basic trigonometry concepts along with calculator skills relevant for VCE Methods.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, he skipped showing steps in equations, which made it hard to spot calculation slips. This meant more time spent searching for mistakes instead of building confidence.

During Year 7 fractions and ratios, answers were sometimes written without full working—especially when converting between percentages and decimals—which left the logic behind his solutions unclear.

In senior functions, there was a tendency to avoid writing out all transformations or endpoints when graphing hybrid functions; this led to confusion mid-question and slowed progress.

When worded problems appeared in both Years 8 and 11, hesitation with identifying key terms often blocked him from forming equations at all.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Box Hill South recently saw Annabel, a senior student, move from confusion to independence with logarithms—she now solves exponentials with different bases on her own after previously needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, James (Year 10) was struggling to interpret worded maths questions but now independently translates them into algebraic expressions and substitutes values accurately, a shift from earlier hesitation and guesswork.

In Year 5, Jacob had difficulty handling negative numbers; using number lines during his {Box Hill South tutoring} session helped him visualise the process so well that he now completes these calculations unaided.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutoring seems to be going very well so far. We have been working on the areas Mohamed has indicated Charlotte needs extra help with and his report was very helpful in this regard.

Leon has made some extreme improvement over this Term. In the last 3 weeks he has achieved 5th and 2nd!!! in the class mathematics tests. This has improved his confidence immensely and he shows more enthusiasm in his tutoring sessions. Very happy with Jordan.

We are very happy with how things are going with Sam - he is great at explaining concepts and Ruby seems to be responding positively to his style of coaching.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blackburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kingswood College.
