in today's modern world, delivering the lecture is not sufficient, in fact, it is more important that students are getting the real picture of that idea or not, if not then tutor can change their method of delivery/teaching to make them understand. I can use my experience in teaching to deliver the lecture/tutorial with an excellent outcome from…

A student comes to a physics tutor because they struggle to understand the knowledge and they cannot communicate their struggles in school, hence they look up to us. So its very important to understand their problems, get simple solutions which makes it easier for them to grasp and then apply them. I believe my strengths are communication, making…

Friendliness. If the child has fears they are not smart enough, it can lead to further diseouragement. By being a friendly face they will want to see you making the overall process feel more rewarding. I believe giving the student confidence is so important as no matter how well you teach them if they believe they can't do it they won't succeed. I always try to start my students off with more basic questions to give them that bit of confidence before working with them to solve the more complex questions. I'm known for being a happy and…

The best thing a physics tutor can do for a student is it reduce the fear of studying/learning a subject. Mathematics is a tough subject and it is important tutors take the right approach when they teach that subject. I am a huge believer in teachers being friends with their students. This is because, students will be tested on their knowledge with complex unfamiliar questions where a more nuanced approach would be required. The best thing which a physics tutor can do is to help students solve the difficulties which they are facing in their studies in such a way that rather than directly giving solutions to them, tutor can help in understanding the problem and concepts behind it. To believe in them. Tutors are mentors, and students need the support. To know someone believes in you might just be the push they need to sway their own self doubts, and thus manage their hindrances. Another important thing is to make themselves redundant. A tutor should aim teach a student so well and organised such that without the tutor…

Ideally, I want to instill the same sense of wonder and love that I have for mathematics in the students. This won't work for all students, of course, so failing that I think a physics tutor should be able to teach a student how to think for themselves - it's one thing to be shown how to get an answer, and it's another thing entirely to be taught…

There are various skills and attitudes that a physics tutor should have inorder for the student to enjoy and learn during lesson time. Being a second person the student can ask for help on things related to the subject, other than their school teacher. So being able to…

Local Reviews

Jane is great. She is easy to talk to and seems very keen to help Tanner. Tanner also likes her and he already seems to have learnt things from her and is remembering it. While kids generally don't like any form of school work, Tanner seems to enjoy being tutored by Jane. She makes things fun for him.

Inside Bracken RidgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Hugo focused on subtraction with borrowing the ten and matched, named, and ordered basic fractions to build understanding of size; he also recapped time.

Year 8 Ruby practiced solving algebraic equations and factorising expressions, then worked through ratio problems for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 Aidan concentrated on applying Pythagoras' Theorem to problem-solving questions and finding missing lengths using scale factors in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 algebra, a student avoided showing working steps—"he skipped showing steps in equations, which hid sign errors"—making it harder to spot and correct small mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner revising trigonometry relied heavily on calculator shortcuts for routine questions, missing chances to strengthen mental recall of ratios and angle rules.

At the senior level, one student faced test planning issues in calculus: time spent reworking earlier answers meant rushing through the final question without checking logic or units.

During primary lessons on subtraction with borrowing, some written work was messy and difficult to follow when carrying tens across columns.

Recent Achievements

One Bracken Ridge tutor saw a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with trigonometry finally tackle mensuration problems independently, applying the right formulas without prompting.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to get stuck on boxplots not only constructed them correctly but started explaining their reasoning out loud while working through data sets.

Meanwhile, in primary maths, Hugo—who often waited for hints—chose to attempt trickier division questions on his own and wrote out all his working without being asked.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutor you sent me on Sat is absolutely excellent. Pls don't change Mina. My kids feel really comfortable with her and finally we feel we have a winning formula.

It's got off to a great start, Beaux really likes Taran and she likes the way Taran explains things and shows her new ways of working things out. Taran has boosted her confidence and Beaux is actually able to do a lot more than we thought.

We are very happy with Thai and the tutoring set up. Massimo and Thai have established a comfortable routine and it appears to be working for everyone involved. I can see that Massimo's confidence has already improved and he has regained his motivation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bracken Ridge Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School.
