It’s essential to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills, rather than just giving answers, so they can become more independent learners.…

A tutor always have to do everything for a student to make him/her achieve their goals by being very patient and can communicate well with the students and their parents, try to find what the students lacks in and try to help in those areas. I know it might sound dramatic but a tutor could make a student what they will be in the near future a good…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is listen. I have seen in my experience that sometimes students have unsolved doubts because their class teacher or tutor does not properly listen to them and fail to comprehend these queries. Anybody can be knowledgable on any topic or chapter but what really helps a student is if…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure the student clearly understands the topic, not just memorises it. It's about helping them build real confidence so that when they answer questions, whether in class or in exams, they're not second-guessing themselves. That means breaking things down in a way that actually makes sense…

Every student is different, from personalities to their academic goals. A tutor should always analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their students. This will provide a detailed insight to the tutors on which areas to particularly focus on. Furthermore, based on the strengths and weaknesses of each student, a tutor can prepare a routine for the students in order to enhance their knowledge in those subjects where the…

The most prominent thing is to work according to the level of child. For example, some students love to study through animations and some by real world examples and also some by doing practicals or activities. Hence; its the duty of a tutor to find the way of teaching that interacts a student and make it interesting for a child to explore that…

It's about fostering a profound sense of belief in a student's potential, even when they may doubt themselves. Ultimately, the most important thing a…

I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. The most important area that a tutor can provide a student is to make sure they are in a comfortable and non-judgmental environment. After providing a friendly setting, this would lay the foundation that would help enable the student to develop a…

Inside Brandon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Daniel practised solving linear equations and finding the gradient and y-intercept of lines, including working through examples using coordinate points.

In Year 10, Jessica focused on quadratic equations—completing the square and transforming quadratics into different forms—as well as transformations of functions from the Methods course.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Liam tackled rates and algebraic fractions from the Specialist Mathematics syllabus, along with further practice on function transformations to support his advanced studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling quadratics hesitated to show written steps, even when not strictly required; as one tutor observed, "writing out logic helps avoid repeated sign errors," but the urge for neatness led to gaps in working.

In a Year 9 session on conditional probability, a reliance on the CAS calculator without careful input checking caused confusion—incorrect answers went unnoticed until rework was needed.

Meanwhile, a primary student repeatedly left homework incomplete in fractions and times tables, which made later sessions less confident and slowed skill growth. The missing practice showed up during live questions: pauses, doubt, erasing instead of reasoning.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Brandon Park noticed Maddison, a Year 10 student, now sketches clear diagrams to break down challenging linear relation problems—something she previously hesitated to do.

Jack, in Year 11, recently tackled transformations of graphs with far less prompting than before and worked through complex equations independently.

In primary sessions, Olivia has started placing her numbers correctly when multiplying large values; just last week, she confidently completed long multiplication without mixing up digit placement—a big shift from her earlier confusion.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley South Primary School.
