Building the student's confidence is crucial, providing encouragement and support to help them believe in their abilities. Adapting teaching methods to suit the student's individual learning…

Each student learns in a unique way and at a different pace and thus a good tutor must understand this and personalise their learning. Alongside this, the tutor must focus on building the student's confidence and teaching to their strengths before wandering into waters unfamiliar to the student. I believe that teaching to the student's needs and…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to successfully pass on knowledge they possess to the student in an efficient manner. However, it is also important to instill confidence and motivation within the students as well. My strengths as a tutor lie in my ability as a quick-learner, good communicator and excellent…

Equally important is boosting the student's confidence, showing them that they are capable of overcoming challenges. A great tutor adapts to the student's unique learning style and pace,…

My first priority would be to make sure the student is clear about what the problem is all about before trying to solve it. I would ensure that I give the student enough time and space to explore the subject or any particular content of it to understand it, instead up hurrying him/her through the process. My focus would be to help him/her…

A tutor can show the beauty of the subject and make the student love the subject. Once that happens, the student can excel not only in that subject, but can also approach everything in life with confidence and aptitude. I love teaching - That would be my greatest strength. I believe most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide a safe and encouraging space where the student feels free to voice any of their concerns or to ask questions. In addition to this a tutor should be commited to understanding the learning style of their student and the ways in which they respond to different teaching methods in…

A tutor always have to do everything for a student to make him/her achieve their goals by being very patient and can communicate well with the students and their parents, try to find what the students lacks in and try to help in those areas. One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is listen. I have seen in my experience that sometimes students have unsolved doubts because their class teacher or tutor does not properly listen to them and fail to comprehend these queries. Anybody can be knowledgable on any topic or chapter but what really helps a student is if…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure the student clearly understands the topic, not just memorises it. It's about helping them build real confidence so that when they answer questions, whether in class or in exams, they're not second-guessing themselves. That means breaking things down in a way that actually makes sense…

A tutor should always analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their students. This will provide a detailed insight to the tutors on which areas to particularly focus on. Furthermore, based on the strengths and weaknesses of each student, a tutor can prepare a routine for the students in order to enhance their knowledge in those subjects where the…

Inside Brandon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Daniel practised solving linear equations and finding the gradient and y-intercept of lines, including working through examples using coordinate points.

In Year 10, Jessica focused on quadratic equations—completing the square and transforming quadratics into different forms—as well as transformations of functions from the Methods course.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Liam tackled rates and algebraic fractions from the Specialist Mathematics syllabus, along with further practice on function transformations to support his advanced studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling quadratics hesitated to show written steps, even when not strictly required; as one tutor observed, "writing out logic helps avoid repeated sign errors," but the urge for neatness led to gaps in working.

In a Year 9 session on conditional probability, a reliance on the CAS calculator without careful input checking caused confusion—incorrect answers went unnoticed until rework was needed.

Meanwhile, a primary student repeatedly left homework incomplete in fractions and times tables, which made later sessions less confident and slowed skill growth. The missing practice showed up during live questions: pauses, doubt, erasing instead of reasoning.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Brandon Park noticed Maddison, a Year 10 student, now sketches clear diagrams to break down challenging linear relation problems—something she previously hesitated to do.

Jack, in Year 11, recently tackled transformations of graphs with far less prompting than before and worked through complex equations independently.

In primary sessions, Olivia has started placing her numbers correctly when multiplying large values; just last week, she confidently completed long multiplication without mixing up digit placement—a big shift from her earlier confusion.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley South Primary School.
