I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make an overall postive impact. Just being an academic support for a student who is struggling can create impacts more meaningful than grades or results. Helping them change their attitude towards learning is the kind of positive change that lasts beyond the classroom. I am a really positive and…

To teach students the foundation for greater and more difficult topics they have to face in the future. As well as this, providing them with a person they feel comfortable asking what they might think a 'silly' question could be. I think I strive on being able to listen to student's opinions and make my method of teaching as clear as possible. I…

To be understanding and patient that each student has their own timeframe to learn content. To encourage them and bring out the best in them. I try to teach the content I know in different ways so that each student can understand what I teach in their own way. I am also very patient and understanding and know to cater to their own…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make learning feel accessible and exciting, by creating a safe space where students feel comfortable to ask questions and not walk-away from tackling any challenges, but rather enjoy the learning experience. I think that one of the important things a tutor can do for a student is to first understand how much the student already knows and where they are struggling. This helps the tutor guide the step-by step to improve their understanding of each topic. Another important thing is patience because learning takes time, and it a calm and encouraging…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help students believe in themselves. Once they feel confident, they’re more open to learning and less afraid of making mistakes, also the more you practice better the results are. I would say building students’ confidence. Students take maths as a phobia but it is not when you teach in a right way.…

As a tutor, I consider it essential to establish a positive connection not only with the students but also with their parents. It is more significant for a tutor to offer support and guidance to students, leading them toward a beneficial path, rather than imposing additional pressure or burdens on them. The most important thing a tutor can do, is to assist students help themselves or to assist them so that they can become an independent learner, and thus, no longer need a tutor. A tutor is not responsible for not passing the exam only, rather he needs to guide the student toward a better future for the student & a wellbeing for the society. I believe that "The teacher is the backbone of the nation". I can understand whether the student really understood or not. "Quality study" is more important than "Quantity study",…

Inside BroadmeadowsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Salma worked on maths skills including estimation, rounding numbers, and understanding ratios using online quizzes, and also began drafting a personal journey essay for English.

Year 10 student Wellson focused on solving simultaneous equations with matrices in maths and practiced analytical writing by drafting essays about climate change and the film Sunset Boulevard, receiving feedback to improve his structure.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Abby prepared for her English comparative essay by researching The Dressmaker and The Crucible, compiling notes from both texts, and planning out practice essays.

Recent Challenges

After a Year 11 English SAC, one student struggled to organise essay arguments, despite clear teacher feedback. This made it harder to show logical progression in responses under exam pressure.

In maths (Year 12), missing a graphics calculator slowed practice and limited the chance to attempt complex exercises at home.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student preparing for an oral presentation felt their confidence dip after forgetting key points during rehearsal; the feedback given was not fully used in follow-up practice.

As revision demands grew before exams, planning and time management sometimes slipped—especially when balancing schoolwork with outside commitments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Broadmeadows noticed Wellson, a high school student, has moved from struggling to organise his essay ideas to independently drafting well-structured essays and even refining his research approach—a big shift from earlier sessions where planning was a hurdle.

Abby, also in high school, used to feel overwhelmed by assessments but now creates detailed revision schedules and compiles notes ahead of time without prompting.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud (Year 5) has started asking more questions about science topics during sessions instead of staying quiet when unsure; last week he eagerly explained spacetime using objects around the room.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hume Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Roxburgh College-The Gateway School.
