For me, the important thing that I can do for my students is helping them to build confidence. I guess most students tend to hire tutors not because they are not good at the subject somehow, but because they lack confidence and interest in it. Therefore, what I can do is to activate their interests and build up confidence in my way. There are…

Inside BromptonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jayden focused on fast verbal recall of multiples of 3 and 4, and began multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers.

Year 8 student Grace worked through algebraic expansion and the difference of two squares, then practised solving equations with fractions.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia revised exponent laws using practice problems and tackled factorisation strategies to support her upcoming maths test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student often ignored written notes during exercises, leading to repeated mistakes with sign changes—she made the same mistake regarding the rule about 'sign changing' very often despite being reminded and her notes are available.

In a Year 4 multiplication lesson, another student's work was described as "a bit more neat with the writing and presenting in exercise book would be nice," making it harder for her to spot errors.

A Year 10 student forgot to notify their tutor before a test, missing out on targeted revision support.

On one occasion, a Year 7 student left homework incomplete, which meant less feedback could be given in session.

Recent Achievements

A Brompton tutor recently noticed Valentina, a high school student, writing out her thought process as she tackled homework on fractions—a shift from simply following steps to actively reflecting on her approach and even asking thoughtful questions.

Athena, another older student, showed new independence by quickly catching up on missed content and then solving most test problems within the set time—something she struggled with previously.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Natalia began breaking down multi-step worded maths problems by herself; last week she identified the right operation without prompting and solved it independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tutoring seems to be going well. I think both Matthew and Abbey are starting to settle into a routine. Abbey has started to apply some of the methods Matthew has shown her to school work. She has come home from school a couple of times now, saying she was asked a question during maths time and got it right. Which, of course, she was very happy about! Within the next few weeks, I will receive Abbey's report for semester 1. I will show Matt, so he has even more understanding of her needs. I'm looking forward to seeing what they achieve in the coming months.

Georgia and myself are very happy with our tutor, Jess. They have a good rapport together and Georgia improved in confidence and Maths already.

Richard is a really lovely young man. He is very patient and good at explaining concepts. He is working really well with Annah and I think even in the 3 weeks we have had so far her understanding and confidence is growing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hindmarsh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
