Students often tend to be awkward and shy, so a tutor need to be laid back and can keep their cool even when students are non-responsive or sometimes, rude. A tutor needs to take the student's academic struggles into account, and praise the efforts they put in and also keep track of the student's progress. The most important thing a tutor can do…

The most important things a tutor can do for student is to be very patient with the student. A tutor should be approachable and understanding and should know the strengths and the weaknesses of his/her students. At the end of the day, the student should learn a lot from the tutor. As I have experienced almost 3 years of being a tutor in…

Although the same student already possesses all the necessary skills to achieve their best, sometimes it takes motivation and encouragement from…

Most importantly I think a tutor should be dedicated in his or her approach to improving a students learning abilities. Also, the teaching should be engaging, challenging and enjoyable so that the student gains the confidence to move towards self learning. I consider myself to be a patient person and a good listener. A tutor should be able to adapt and listen to their student as this is important in being able to address their needs. Each student is an individual and therefore, no two students will have the same learning style. A tutor must be able to account for this and provide for the student. I believe the most important thing tutors can do for their students is to understand the unique needs and strengths of each student. This means the teaching approach taken by the tutor should be adapted to match the preferences and learning styles of the student. Being able to build a positive relationship with the student is also crucial, as it…

Helping the student understand, because I always believe if they could understand the topic, they can continue to answer the rest of the questions on their own. A teacher must be absolutely predictable in terms of her expectations of her pupils. She must stick to her classroom expectations and be very consistent. If a class senses that the teacher is unsure, they will be in charge of that classroom very shortly. Therefore, consistency is a must. Fairness is also important. Being willing to listen and…

Carolyn Boone

Inside BrookdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Samuel worked on multiplying and dividing decimals as well as reviewing area and perimeter using diagrams.

In Year 9, Isabelle focused on trigonometry basics and applied the quadratic formula to problem sets.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Daniel practiced solving exponential growth and decay problems in financial maths, along with revising key algebra skills for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student recently received a test score highlighting time management issues—struggling to finish longer problems meant some answers were rushed or incomplete. As one tutor noted, "she didn't revisit her mistakes after feedback," especially in algebra revision, which led to repeated errors.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 geometry, notes revealed that disorganized materials slowed progress: missing worksheets and scattered notes made it hard to review fraction strategies before exams.

In Year 4 arithmetic, forgetting homework and not bringing notebooks meant extra time was spent tracking down what had been covered previously instead of moving forward with multiplication practice.

Recent Achievements

One Brookdale tutor noticed that Owen, a high school student, has started requesting extra homework and now arrives at each session with his own questions—he used to be hesitant to ask for help but is now much more proactive about tackling confusing topics.

In Year 10, Sol had struggled with trigonometry for several weeks, but after working through a new set of teacher-provided worksheets and using sports analogies in tutoring, he managed to solve even the harder problems on his own and was visibly pleased with the breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Tawny (Year 4) surprised her tutor by remembering fractions work from months earlier and eagerly volunteering to compare, add, subtract, multiply, and divide different fractions without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We have been very happy with Ameya , he has been well prepared, punctual and very committed to his work with Emma... I would happily recommend both Ezy Math tutoring and Ameya to people.

Shannon is delighted with Daniel and I can already see measurable results. She appears more confident.  We are more than happy to continue with him. I just need to work out  which plan to choose. When do I need to decide this?

Jason is a very nice young man who is always prompt and seems well prepared for each lesson. Charles  enjoys his tutoring so far and seems to be gaining a little more confidence.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Armadale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Australian Christian College - Darling Downs.
