The most vital thing a physics tutor can do for any student is to ensure comprehension of the topic. Notably, in math. It is easy enough to follow a procedure on how to solve a problem, running through the steps that were taught. However, if a student can understand why those steps are happening, and delve into fundamentals of the problem, then…

Inspire them. One of the biggest roadblocks for many students is a general reluctance to do it due to negative stigma from either their parents, peers or even themselves. Sometimes when students don't quite grasp a concept, they will think "well I just don't get it", and then further down the line every time that concept is built upon, they will…

I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do is to equip a student with critical thinking skills relating to HOW to approach a problem. If a student can frame a problem, or recognize which tools are appropriate, then the rest becomes much more manageable. - I have a good knowledge of subjects, and their applications. - I can often…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a physics tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to offer them quality information and direct feedback on their work and areas of struggle. Inside Browns PlainsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ethan focused on statistics, working through box plots and stem-and-leaf diagrams as well as measures of central tendency like mean and mode, using visual representations to deepen understanding.

In Year 10, Olivia practised plotting scatter graphs and interpreting correlation strength and direction, then moved on to algebra by forming equations for straight lines and solving simultaneous equations by substitution.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James revised linear functions—exploring graphing techniques and the relationship between gradients and y-intercepts to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for exams found herself overwhelmed by multiple-choice questions, not due to content gaps but unfamiliarity with the format; "she became overwhelmed…due to lack of experience in them."

In Year 9, one learner repeatedly avoided writing out working when tackling algebraic rearrangements, relying on mental calculations—this led to missed sign errors and made feedback difficult.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student often struggled with laying out her long division steps clearly, causing confusion during teacher marking.

For a senior student, inconsistent use of calculator functions slowed down progress on statistics tasks, leaving her unsure which features to apply under pressure.

Recent Achievements

During a Browns Plains tutoring session, one Year 12 student became much more proactive in spotting and correcting their own calculation errors during complex probability questions, where previously they would miss these mistakes until prompted.

Another high schooler who used to hesitate with calculator-based tasks now independently navigates the correct menus for technology-assisted assessments, quickly inputting values without guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student has started explaining out loud how she solves money problems and highlights key information herself—something she was reluctant to do before—which helps her tackle multi-step questions with far less assistance than earlier in the term.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

WE are very happy with Jades work with Tanisha, Tanisha is very comfortable with Jade.  Tanisha has improved with her maths so far thanks to Jades help.

I just wanted to let you know that Arielle's recent yearly Maths marks were the best she has ever had. Usually he marks are in the high 30's ( the test is out of 60) but this time she scored 50 out of 60! Arielle was thrilled and I know this has really boosted her confidence regarding her Maths abilities as she always felt Maths was too hard. I have noticed a definite change in her attitude to Maths tutoring with Ivan. She no longer dreads the session and is able to remain focused and attentive the whole time. This has given her the confidence to begin her new school next year with a positive attitude towards Maths.

Once again I really appreciate your help over the last few months. The structured format that EzyMaths brings to tutoring appears to provide a clear framework and guidelines for the tutors to work within. Combined with a really outstanding young tutor in Calvin this has had been very beneficial for Dom. I congratulate you on a great model and wish the business success for the future.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan West Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Indie School, Logan.
