The primary reason why a student may hire a tutor is to give them the in-depth understanding of "Why" the concept is the way it hence. Hence, explaining them the core concept, which enables them to solve the problems during their exams and assignments without having any second doubts. Additionally, as a part of tutor, it is my responsibility to…

I think the most important thing for a student is being able to connect with them on their wavelength, engaging their interest and focusing on their capabilities as a person rather than using a "one size fits all" approach. I am very passionate and empathetic which helps students who are otherwise struggling. I am also hardworking and have a…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to not give up on the student. While it is rewarding when students improve, some can take a while before they can overcome their learning curve. It is important to be patient and work together as a team to help them achieve better results. I try to think outside the box and tailor my lessons to the…

Sometimes its difficult to read what is going inside a students head and maybe student says he/she understands the subject but in reality they are just shy to ask questions As a tutor I can have some informal tests to see whether the student is understanding. A good tutor should always focus on qualitative approach rather than quantitative…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to support the student throughout their school year as I understand that students during this time can go through a lot of pressure and deal with factors outside of their control. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a strong support system so that they can confidently ask for help and not feel discouraged when they don't understand a concept. I believe a tutor can inspire a student to be a better human being. A tutor can inspire a student to think differently, to think out of the box, to be creative. The tutor can pass on knowledge and real world experience and insights. In other words a tutor can perfect a student. I think my first strength is that I am extremely patient. I can…

Being understanding and open minded may perhaps be the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student. Every student has varying strengths and limits and thus following the same approach may not have the desired result. Thus, being patient and having more than one explanation may prove in handy and help make a student develop trust in the…

In my opinion, the relationship beyond subject tutoring is the most important aspect of a tutor. A great tutor must have the ability to connect deeply with the students to give them personalised teaching methods and materials, which ultimately increase both efficiency and effectiveness in teaching. In order of doing so, a tutor must have a great…

A tutor should be approachable and they should encourage students to ask each and every question they have in mind. A tutor should also be able to act like a mentor for educational and professional guide. However, it is very important for tutors to keep a professional boundary in mind. Inside BulleenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Chloe focused on operations with negative numbers and began working through fraction concepts using visual aids.

A Year 9 student tackled solving equations and revisited her recent school test, targeting areas she got wrong and clarifying simultaneous equations and indices.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student worked through finance chapters—reviewing compound interest calculations and completing revision questions ahead of an upcoming SAC to reinforce understanding of real-world applications.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student was set targeted homework but often left these tasks incomplete, which limited consolidation—one tutor noted, "She should find some time to do some homework questions that I set for her."

In Year 12 Maths Methods, a tendency to misread or rush through exam-style questions meant correct methods were applied to the wrong part, resulting in lost marks: "she does the right method but provides an incorrect answer which the question may not be particularly asking."

Meanwhile, a Year 8 learner hesitated to persist when stuck on trigonometry problems and would quickly move on without exploring alternative approaches.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bulleen recently noticed a Year 10 student who had struggled with simultaneous equations finally solve several complex examples independently, after weeks of needing step-by-step guidance.

Another high schooler, preparing for VCE maths, reviewed past exam papers and confidently tackled previously missed questions—she could now explain her approach without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who used to avoid asking for help has started openly voicing when she's stuck on fractions, which let her master adding unlike denominators during their last session. The lesson finished with her completing all fraction tasks accurately on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bulleen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Clement of Rome School.
