I believe the most important things a tutor can do is offer the correct support educationally but also help them build their confidence to a point they can begin to work things out for themselves without guidance. It is important to remain professional at all times but also be a tutor who is willing to understand the circumstances surrounding the…

Inside BundabahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tyler worked through decimals (addition, subtraction, and multiplication), rounding numbers, and fraction operations as part of his maths booklet and grading exam preparation.

In Year 9, Sarah focused on algebraic techniques to build confidence with equations and expressions, addressing her main challenge area.

For Year 11, Olivia covered financial mathematics topics such as depreciation, shares and dividend yield, along with tackling both simple and compound interest using practical examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student's confidence dropped sharply after a challenging practice test; she hesitated when processes weren't clear and often mixed up algebraic rules, as described: "She didn't believe me when I told her some of the rules!"

In senior years, one student was highly formula-driven in financial maths, tending to plug in numbers without understanding the context or adapting methods—this led to confusion with non-standard questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 workbook showed messy layouts and poor organization, making revision harder.

In each case, these process habits slowed progress and left students second-guessing themselves during critical tasks.

Recent Achievements

A Bundabah tutoring session saw Danika, a Year 10 student, start organising her school notes and actively marking questions she wanted help with—something she hadn't done before.

Elliott in Year 11 has begun explaining his thinking out loud more during advanced maths sessions, sometimes even challenging the tutor's methods, which shows real growth from when he used to stay quiet unless prompted.

Meanwhile, Lara (Year 8) recently tackled a pop quiz where she applied concepts from earlier lessons without giving up at the first hurdle; instead of waiting for hints, she now asks questions and works through problems herself.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Andrew is very happy with Stephen's tutorials. They have already formed a very healthy teacher student relationship, and Andrew is enjoying his Maths.  He got everything correct in a test he did at school last week.  The only thing that was incorrect was the fact that his decimal point was not in the correct place.

Just letting you know that Layla is gaining a lot from Jacob and in only three weeks.  Her confidence is starting to grow little by little and she is trying more on her own which is great to see.

Everything is going well. Lizzy and I are very happy with Michael and pleased with her results so far.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Tea Gardens Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Soldiers Point Public School.
