I think the two most important things that a tutor can do for a student is tailoring their teaching approach to match the students learning style and pace. I also think it's extremely important to create a positive learning environment for the students so that they feel supported and encouraged to learn and ask questions. I am able to adapt well…

Changing a students mindset and reigniting their passion for learning. Some students can lose belief in themselves and don’t know their true ability to learn and apply knowledge. Getting that spark back in them and making them become confident in their own ability can be very rewarding and can make learning fun again. I’m a good listener, I…

As I previously mentioned, I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to help a student actually understand how to get to the answer. Often in my education I was taught a method of how to get the answer rather than why the answer was correct. I feel like a good tutor does not just aid the student with the question but gives them a thorough…

Offer more than one way to teach a topic. While in year 11 I had a maths tutor who struggled to teach me something after failing the first time. It felt like a waste of both our times. Patience, good with kids as I have a younger sister, able to change up teaching styles to suit different kids. Also, I can help kids understand the importance of…

Be there to challenge them but more importantly encourage them. Some of the most admirable teachers that I've had in school were the ones that understood me individually as a student, and did not just base their attitude towards me based on the mark I received. Empathy, patience, assertive, challenging, rewarding, and attentive. I believe that…

A tutor can help the student review the knowledge they learnt from the school and also help to solve the problems they met. In many cases that the students think they fully understood the knowledge, but they are still confused when they meet the same question again. A tutor helps students to re-understand the knowledge and also resolve the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not put too much pressure on the learner. In my opinion, a teacher must always be willing to learn those concepts for his students which they want to know. Also , a teacher must even provide them with some learning methods so that they can get grasp over any topic easily. Moreover, a teacher must always motivate a student and help him to think out of a box. Apart from that, teacher can…

The tutor needs to always put the students' needs first. Tutors need to listen and understand the students' learning level and subsequently apply this knowledge in order to improve the way a student learns. This is important since every child can reach their full potential, they just sometimes need some guidance. The tutor needs to keep the…

Inside BundeenaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Thomas explored addition and subtraction, telling time, basic shapes, and skip counting to check current understanding across key maths areas.

Year 8 student Alice focused on probability terminology and interpreting tables using x-y axes to build confidence with data-based questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia worked through angle identities—such as co-interior, alternate, corresponding—and reviewed supplementary and complementary angles using visual diagrams for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often rushed to answers in algebra, skipping steps—"he'd jump straight to the solution without showing working, which hid sign errors." This made it harder to spot and fix mistakes during revision.

In Year 11 Ancient History, another student struggled with gathering sources while learning content; leaving this until later meant details were forgotten when needed for essays.

For a Year 4 student, messy handwriting ("the number 8 can look like a 6") caused confusion and led to calculation errors that slowed progress. During tired moments, even simple multiplication was tripped up—small things snowballed quickly.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bundeena noticed that a Year 9 student, after weeks of hesitation, has started combining different maths topics to solve complex problems on his own—last session he worked through angle questions by applying both supplementary angles and triangle properties without prompts.

In another high school session, a Year 11 student who used to rely heavily on the tutor for each step now confidently applies probability terminology when tackling new exam-style questions, showing clear independence.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised her tutor by asking for harder addition tasks after mastering skip counting and solving sums with counters.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Anh and her tutoring of Lana.  We are taking a break over the school holidays and public holiday but will be back into it in a couple of weeks. Anh was very generous with her time leading up to Lana's last exam and although not anticipated given the short lead up time, her results improved. It's been a great decision for us to set the foundations for Lana with senior maths.

Afra has met with Jasmine once so far as we have had the holidays. I think it went really well and Jasmine is actually looking froward to her next lesson this Saturday.

Lazarus is very happy with Joseph. I think Joseph will be a good fit for Lazarus' learning needs.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bundeena Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bundeena Public School.
