A tutor should always listen to the student and work with their unique set of needs. Learning should always happen in a fun and motivating environment which engages the student. This may mean getting to know more about the student on a personal level so that I can make the study content relevant to the student's particular interests. I have a…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to develop the student's critical thinking skills so that when they continue to study or whatever they want to achieve in life, they have the skills to keep learning and teaching themselves. A tutor must not only give a student the confidence and encouragement needed to learn properly, but…

It is important to be patient and a good listener. Students learn at their own pace and you cannot push them. Even if something seems simple to you, for the student it might not be. Being a good listener means not dominating the conversation. Allow the students to ask questions and give the students plenty of time to answer your questions.…

I think the most important is to help a student feel confident in their intelligence, and in themselves. I needed a tutor in some subjects growing up, and it can feel bad to be “behindâ€Â. Helping a student to understand their learning styles and how to utilize them is a very important thing. Following that, I think being a listener and a…

Rather than provide a mass amount of information, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is instil a sense of confidence and interest in the subject. That is easy. The most important thing is to inspire them and engage their curiosity. To be more interesting than a teacher trying to teach a class, and to show the student /s that learning is beneficial, fun, and not-dreary schoolwork. To listen and make the learning experience enjoyable. The best way to learn is to do it in a way that does not stress you out, make it easy to understand. Inside BundooraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jessie worked on long division with both single- and two-digit divisors, then practiced adding and subtracting simple fractions where denominators were factors of each other.

Year 8 student Sarah focused on algebraic equations involving all four operations, and began working with similar terms as well as finding lowest common multiples and highest common factors.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily completed trigonometry, applying the Pythagoras theorem to solve for unknown side lengths in right-angled triangles and using diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student's tendency to skip writing working for algebra led to repeated confusion and missed marks—"she often jumps straight to the answer, which hides small mistakes."

For a Year 11 economics student, answers lacked full explanations in economic terms; incomplete elaboration made it hard to show depth of understanding.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 struggled with using the correct formula during geometry questions, hesitating over which process to apply.

In each case, these habits left students spending extra time retracing steps or feeling unsure about their responses during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Bundoora tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to avoid asking for help; last week, he raised his hand mid-problem and explained exactly where he was stuck, leading him to finish all the algebra questions on his own.

In another session, a Year 11 student who'd previously mixed up biology concepts began completing short-answer questions independently after using her own summary notes for the first time.

Meanwhile, Jessie in Year 5 started writing out her multiplication workings step-by-step instead of guessing—she finished her homework with only one careless mistake.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Georgette, Luiz's tutor is amazing and we would like her to continue if possible over the school summer holidays.

Lauren has only had a couple of sessions with Nirvan but the benefits were instant & she has really valued his tutoring which has given her more confidence in her capabilities as well. Nirvan seems an exceptional young man & his polite manner & tutoring style are a credit to him. We have been very pleased with the quality, prompt & ease of arrangements & would like to utilise your services again next year.

So far we are pretty happy with Daniel and his enthusiastic and focused approach. I think Cleo feels very comfortable with him and he has been able to help her manage her work load and advancing slowly to re gain her confidence. He has a lovely mature manner, a very likeable guy.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ivanhoe Grammar School - University Campus.
