Sometimes the same information can be summarised and presented in a different way that is just easier for some people to understand. My own capacity for learning. Is create a comfortable and enjoyable space to study in. I used to be tutored in my senior years, and my favourite part about going to tutoring was that I had created a friendship with my tutor and that made doing my assignments a lot more enjoyable. Being able to listen to your students as well because what’s written as a question on paper…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to show the student that they can have fun while they learn. I am a very patient person and I am able to explain things in a variety of different ways, a skill, that I believe, of vital importance to a tutor. I also love coming up with different ways to make sessions as fun…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to make them stand on their own feet. A tutor should be able to make their mentee confident in learning, understanding, and applying their lessons on their own. It's also important for a tutor to establish a good rapport with the student and make them feel comfortable. I always…

For me its the concept of instilling confidence. So often children are discouraged by a challenging question and then feel incapable and worthless. This is wrong on so many levels and child should ever feel this way. The most important things an english tutor can do is instill confidence in children through patiently encouraging them to never give…

The most important thing that an english tutor can do is to be patient. It can be extremely easy for students to become frustrated with themselves when learning something new, so the best thing to do is to be patient and easy going so as to alleviate any further stress. The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to help the student learn in a way that works for them. Usually in a classroom, due to the overwhelming number of students, teachers aren't always able to help students individually. Therefore, sometimes a student that is struggling is only struggling because they learn better with…

Inside BurpengaryTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Darell revised prime and composite numbers, as well as square and triangular numbers using practice exam questions.

In Year 10, Rebecca worked on simplifying ratios and multiplying/dividing like terms by tackling her homework problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Joshua covered trigonometry with a focus on the sine and cosine rules, plus transposing equations, while practicing both textbook exercises and sample exam questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left homework incomplete last week, which meant less exposure to core skills like multiplication—"didn't do any more of his homework," noted the tutor, so key practice was missed.

In Year 10 Maths, another student often skips note-taking and relies heavily on memory or hints; this led to confusion with formula recall during algebra and statistics revision.

Meanwhile, a senior student struggled to keep subject notes organized across books, making it difficult to track progress or revisit mistakes before exams.

When classwork is not brought home for revision, content gaps quietly widen over time.

Recent Achievements

One Burpengary tutor noticed that Joshua, a high school student, now openly asks questions when he's unsure about problem-solving steps—previously, he'd hesitate and try to work things out silently.

Rebecca, also in high school, has started to admit when she doesn't understand a question and will ask for clarification instead of guessing; this shift means she tackles new topics with more independence.

Meanwhile, Daniel in Year 6 showed genuine enthusiasm by recalling last week's material without prompts—even after missing a lesson—then finished all his mental maths problems without needing help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Lauren seems to be going well and most importantly is engaging with Steph and feeling better about Maths in general. We are very happy with Steph so far. She is a lovely girl who is always punctual and the communication between us is excellent. And I think Lauren looks forward to her sessions with Steph, which can only be a positive!

She has been SUPER professional. I would recommend her without hesitation. She is responsible, has made a connection with my son, has communicated with me and kept me informed all the time. She is a great asset. We look forward to working with her in the future.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burpengary Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burpengary State School.
