Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. And that is okay, so as a maths tutor, I would want to see how they learn best, and help them to enjoy and achieve…

Most important thing in learning process is repetition of lessons and patient hearing and understanding of their thought process or logic. Students need to be guided in their thought process - the way they better understand. As a tutor my strngths are : 1) I can present various ways of problem solving, that suit their ability. 2) I am very…

Ultimately, the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student are provide academic guidance, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these factors can potentially reinvent a class, subject, or school more broadly for a young learner. Some qualities of a good tutor include skills in communication, listening,…

I believe that a good tutor's primary goal is to utilise everything at their disposal to convert concepts into tangible and engaging topics and enthuse their students. Thus, I believe motivation is the fuel for accomplishing great results. With tutoring, we can help students to build confidence by tackling their academic fears and as a result,…

A good tutor should not only be able to solve problems efficiently, but more importantly, teach students the way to approach different problems. It is the way of thinking that matters in students' future learning. I am patient, responsible, patient and good at explaining problems in different approaches. There are 2 things I consider to be vital. First, while facing problems, show student how to do some research online and try to figure out the solution by his or her own. Secondly, falling love with the knowledge of the subject and stick and apply the know-how learnt to real world situation. My multi-language and multi- cultural background make…

The most important thing will be to help the student find his/her interest in the subject. If they don't believe they can do it or that what they're learning is actually beneficial, they're only ever going to treat it as something they have to do. It'll be difficult for them to reach their potential in the subject. My strengths would be ability to…

The most important things I can do for a student is teaching them how to learn and study more efficiently as those are more important than helping them to solve specific questions. I believe, a maths tutor should be a guide and an influence to the students to think and analyze on their own. Also, a tutor is most effective when he nderstands what the students actually need and work on that. I can breakdown a complex concept and translate it into a simple one - an easier way for the student to understand. I also guide students…

Character. A character of patience from the tutor could be a lot helpful. Because people are different and unique. It doesn't matter how long it takes for a student to understand a topic/subject. Some students learn fast, while others aren't, so all it takes from the tutor is a bit of patience and repetition. I am confident and am someone whom…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do is inspire confidence that nothing is impossible! We're here to help and that involves listening, understanding, and figuring out how to make the subject matter tick for the student—as they say in the military, "There are no bad soldiers; only bad generals". Patience, ability to understand other…

Inside CalamvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sarah focused on data and statistics as well as exploring area and volume through hands-on activities.

In Year 10, Jayden tackled linear motion in Physics alongside solving trigonometry problems in Maths, using diagrams to support understanding of Newton's Laws.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Priya worked on derivatives—both first and second, linking these concepts to her Physics assignment by interpreting rates of change within real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, over-reliance on notes was noted during complex derivatives—"needed to actively recall rules like chain rule, not just refer back each time." This led to slower problem-solving and difficulty with new types of questions.

For a Year 12 Physics assignment, incomplete drafts and weak evidence sections stalled progress; as one tutor put it, "needed more work on the second half of the draft to complete it in time."

In a Year 8 trigonometry session, missing key words in worded problems made set-up harder and increased confusion.

When written work remained underdeveloped in senior English tasks, conclusions felt rushed or unsupported.

Recent Achievements

A Calamvale tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely heavily on hints is now working through derivative problems independently, even explaining the chain and product rules back without hesitation.

Another high schooler who previously handed in incomplete Chemistry drafts arrived this week with her assignment fully finished ahead of schedule, then acted on feedback by refining her rationale section independently.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was hesitant to speak up now routinely asks for help when stuck—this session, she tackled all the maths worksheet's tricky questions after asking clarifying questions aloud.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Delila is a delight! She has established a great rapport with Isabella in the two lessons so far; and has expressed a commitment to helping Isabella in the long term. She has a lovely personality; and Isabella really really likes her already. I could not be more pleased.

Hi Tristan, Thank you for tutoring Macgregor, I have often found it difficult to motivate him to do homework and I have found your calm encouraging and persistent approach works very well with him. You are really great at keeping him engaged and focused at the same time, and work very well with him. You follow everything through in a sound, structured and well thought out way. I find your approach very professional. I have also found you very flexible and reliable and adapt to whatever Macgregor needs. Most importantly, Macgregor loves working with you and enjoys the way work with him. I look forward to seeing you continue to work with Macgregor next term.

Kai is really enjoying his lessons with Noah! He's got a great way of connecting with Kai. Kai mentioned that Noah explains the reasons instead of doing things by rote. He gets him to think before explaining the answer. Very happy with him!

Local Spots for Tutoring
