The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand their goals, however big or small they are, and help them find ways to achieve them in addition to the teaching. Teaching is the main aspect of tutoring, however, as someone who has had a few tutors, I think the most important aspect is to try and get the students to achieve…

Celebrate the wins and encourage and support them through the trickier parts so that we can get more wins and celebrate more so they feel like winners all the time! One of my strengths would have to be that I often think differently to most where I see problems in a different light. This allows me to provide students with a different way of…

I believe that a tutor must not add additional pressure to a student as I am well aware of the stress and anxiety VCE and other year level courses can bring. Therefore, it is vital that a tutor understands this and ensures that not only is the student exceeding academically but also advising them about strategies to consistently keep on working…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. There is much more to learning than parroting back facts - information needs to absorbed, regurgitated, reused in a practical sense. I have much hands-on experience in using my chosen skills -…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be a good mentor and teacher. I believe that the most valuable things a tutor can do for a student is to remain supportive and encouraging. Often a problem students encounter is their lack of self esteem which inhibits their ability to be able to perform well academically. I believe by always remaining optimistic ignites a sense of self confidence amongst my students to be…

Not everyone thinks in the same way or is at the same level as you are. So, you need to have a variety of techniques or skills on hand in order to help a child understand what they are learning. I am patient and can think from others' point of view. I can tell when a child may be struggling and am able to sense when what I'm doing doesn't make…

I think the tutor should make the learning environment very fulfilling. This may require tutors to sometimes spend time outside of lessons to research on ways of improving their teaching methods or finding out the solutions to their student's questions which the tutor themselves may have been unsure of. I also believe that a tutor should…

I believe that a tutor is not there to chastise and 'drill' concepts into a student's mind. The best thing that a tutor can do for their student is to create a positive, uplifting and supportive learning environment. This ensures that students feel comfortable to learn and improve so that they can approach their mistakes not with self-doubt and a…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient with the student. The student can ask the same problem numerous times and we as a mentor should calmly make them understand. Also, not everyone have the same understanding level and as a teacher applying the same methodology to everyone may not be fruitful. The tutor should know the level of…

Inside Calder ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Aryan worked on representing and interpreting data using different types of graphs, then explored measures of centre including mean, median, mode, and range.

In Year 8, Jake focused on algebraic expressions—learning how to collect like terms and expand brackets step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sarah practised applying the Pythagoras theorem to solve problems involving right-angled triangles and was introduced to basic trigonometry concepts like sine, cosine, and tangent using SOH CAH TOA.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students faced challenges with test-taking processes, especially under timed conditions in mathematics.

For example, one Year 10 student "needed more practice being focused on task and timed," leading to rushed working during trigonometry revision.

A Year 8 learner struggled with interpreting worded problems—"difficulty understanding certain words" left some questions unanswered in assessments.

At the primary level, another student hesitated with multiplication tables when put under test pressure, slowing down progress through number facts.

In Year 12, over-reliance on a CAS calculator caused hesitation recalling formulas without support; confidence wavered as unfamiliar topics appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Calder Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who used to freeze when facing trigonometry questions—last session, she confidently identified opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse sides and could calculate missing angles with little prompting.

In Year 11, another student showed new independence by spotting algebraic errors on his own and fixing them immediately, rather than waiting for guidance as he did before.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who had previously needed step-by-step help surprised her tutor by working through mixed fraction addition solo and checking her own answers for mistakes.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

MIchael has enjoyed Nathan's tutoring sessions. My son found Nathan's theory far more informative and much clearer then his current maths teacher. Michael connected well with Nathan.

Ezymath were professional and helpful, they quickly obtained a tutor in my area whilst other tutoring companies had glossy ads or websites, but were disinterested or did not get back to me. The tutor provided helped my daughter improve greatly in Maths. I would recommend their service to anyone.

I have seen improvement already. Jason is a gem and I want to continue with Will having his weekly tutoring session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sydenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Overnewton Anglican Community College - Canowindra Campus.
