The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide guidance and help whenever a student needs it. By providing students with the necessary help on problems that they may be struggling with, they will develop their own approach to solving problems and will eventually solve similar problems without assistance. As a tutor, I believe…

Ancient History Tutor Woy Woy, NSW
I think that whilst having adaptive teaching methods is important, ensuring the student constantly feels supported and motivated by the tutor is vital. For me, in school no matter how much I was struggling (especially in maths) I found that having a great, understanding teacher, allowed me to not be afraid of asking ‘stupid’ questions. So for…

Local Reviews

I am delighted. Jasmine has transformed my 'end-of-Year 7 daughter' from doubtful and unenthusiastic about Maths to a 'start-of-Year 9 daughter' confident and proud of her ability. Jasmine is patient, calm and reliable - encouraging and helpful. The change over the past 12 months has been wonderful, both for my daughter but also for me, I can relax now knowing that Mathematics is in hand and on track. Highly recommend.

Inside CalgaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Yillen reviewed algebraic equations—including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division—and practiced applying Pythagoras' Theorem to right-angled triangles, often using diagrams for clarity.

Year 9 Chloe focused on trigonometry skills with SOHCAHTOA to find side lengths and angles in right triangles, as well as revising formulas for speed, distance, and time from her upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 6 Arielle worked on adding and subtracting fractions with both like and unlike denominators, along with multiplying mixed numbers and exploring how fraction values change as denominators vary.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student recently left his calculator at home during a lesson on circles, which made dividing by π much harder and slowed progress.

In a senior English session, one student only brought limited written work for feedback—"to get more written material from the student if wanting feedback on it"—so opportunities to improve essays were missed.

For a Year 10 algebra task, skipping working steps led to repeated sign errors that hid misunderstandings.

A primary student, meanwhile, struggled with organizing notes and remembering the difference between area and perimeter after not revising foundational definitions since last year.

Recent Achievements

A Calga tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after initially struggling with Pythagoras' Theorem, left the session confidently explaining how to solve problems on his own—a real turnaround from needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student not only completed her algebra homework early but also asked for extra challenging questions, something she'd been too hesitant to do before.

For a younger learner in Year 4, the tutor saw him break down tricky word problems independently after practicing new multiplication skills; he finished by tackling all three examples without help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I would like to thank you for providing 2 excellent tutors for Nerys over the last 2 years in particular Christina. Christina has been excellent, not only is she a lovely person who shows patience she has catered to Nerys learning style and the proof is in the pudding . Nerys has improved dramatically. She has moved up in class ranking and she is now confidence and able to understand maths concepts more easily. please pass our gratitude to Christina.

Ethan is settling in very nicely with working with Jordan, who is very professional, friendly and approachable. Ethan is comfortable working with Jordan and is beginning to gain a little confidence in his approach to maths, so we are more than happy to continue working with him.

Georgie is really enjoying coaching with Gabrielle. She's already doing so much better in maths at school (her teacher has commented on the huge improvement at recent parent teacher conference!). Gabrielle is a real asset to your team. She's so polite, punctual, intelligent and just fantastic.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kariong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kariong Public School.
