I believe a teacher can either make or break a student and I've seen both scenarios happen around me. I believe as a tutor the most important thing I can do is boost their confidence or build it from scratch if they have no confidence at all. Be a good friend and to create a stress-free, comfortable environment for my students. I have handled a…

Understanding each and every student is vital to me as a tutor. The majority of students find math to be intimidating, but it is my job as a tutor to demonstrate that anyone can excel in a subject like mathematics. Another thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them the confidence they need to succeed in all they do, including maths. My…

One of the most important thing I think is fostering a positive and encouraging learning environment. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is be a mentor for a student. Whilst a tutor's primary role is to help guide a student through a specific subject, a tutor can also be a source of motivation, counsel and admiration. A tutor can provide guidance on other aspects of school and life outside the subject they are teaching and can…

The most important thing is to get the student to think about how to learn. This skill is transferable across content areas and supports lifelong learning. Of course, teaching how to learn is not done via lectures or readings, but rather by example, practice, and reflection. Rather than simply giving answers, or doing the work for the student,…

I think the most important thing a tutor should do is to create a support system that enables the student to reach their full potential. In addition to teaching them the subject you should also enable them to develop learning strategies and grow in a more…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do is reassure a student of their capabilities. I believe it is essential for tutors to help students build confidence and self esteem in a subject. I think every student can do well if they have confidence and positive feelings towards a subject, regardless of what level they perform at initially. Another thing a tutor should do is to find the student’s preferred method of learning, and…

Local Reviews

We had a very good experience with Ezy Math. They were very proactive and great to deal with. When the first tutor we hired didn't work for us, we requested a change and they were quick to find us a replacement who was excellent. Jenny Wong is a great math Tutor and was kind, compassionate, patient and excellent at tutoring Maths. My daughter really benefited greatly and built much confidence and did well under her tutoring. Ezy Math regularly ask for feedback to see how things are going and are happy to work with you to make sure you have right tutor for your child.

Inside CamberwellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Adele worked on operations with decimals, including multiplying and dividing them, and practised applying place value concepts to support accuracy.

Year 7 student Mia reviewed algebraic expressions—simplifying, factorising, and expanding brackets—and explored multiplying exponents with the same base using step-by-step written explanations.

Meanwhile, Jaidan in Year 8 focused on mastering Pythagoras' theorem by breaking down the formula's application to right-angled triangles and also spent time reviewing his recent test to address specific misunderstandings in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, one student often guessed answers for worded division problems or larger multiplication facts instead of working them out, saying "it's too hard" before attempting. This led to repeated confusion with remainders and symbol meanings.

In Year 7, another student rushed mental arithmetic rather than writing clear steps—"he prefers rushing through his working rather than writing it out step by step," a tutor noted—which made it difficult to track down errors in negative number calculations.

By Year 10 algebra, skipping written working meant sign errors went unnoticed until results were checked at the end, leading to frustration when mistakes accumulated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Camberwell noticed Jayden's answers have become more structured and thorough—he now explains each step in algebraic problems, rather than just giving the final answer.

Jaidan, a high school student who previously struggled with Pythagoras' theorem, was able to spot where he'd gone wrong on his last test and corrected his approach when reviewing practice questions.

Meanwhile, Mia has started asking for clarification instead of skipping tricky worded maths problems; this shift means she now completes most multi-step questions independently, including finding 10% off prices and calculating change with decimals.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your email... I would also like to thank you for sending Angela to tutor Claudia. She is fantastic and is really helping Claudia and Claudia is very happy to have her as her tutor.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and Mohammed once again for everything. The standard of tutoring was outstanding and most of all Elise gained from it proving so with her results. Mohammed was a pleasure to have in our home being the polite gentleman he is. Such a credit to you and your company. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ezy Math Tutoring to anyone.

Thought I would drop you an email to let you know Aaron took his first lesson with the boys last night and everything seemed to go very well.  Brook and Lewis both commented on how the learning methods given were helpful and will hopefully put these in place. Thank you and hopefully this will be a turning point in the boys attitude towards this subject.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camberwell Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Camberwell Girls Grammar School.
