Understanding the weak points and listening to their problems helps establish trust between the tutor and the student. This makes a tutor approachable. A tutor should never make their students feel that any question is dumb. Imparting the idea that all questions are good questions and students should never fear while asking anything is one of the…

Giving confidence to the student is the most important thing. If the student is not confident in their ability to do the task, then they will believe that they can not and will not try. Understanding the frustrations that the student can have because they don't understand something, staying calm and patiently taking the student through the problem…

It's not just about teaching concepts, but helping the student believe in their own ability to understand and apply them. In mi opinion, a tutor should take care of the students in terms of ensuring that they understand each one of the concepts and topics explained. He/she should not hesitate in repeating an explanation as many times as necessary if the student doesn't understand any topic. Engage with them in such a way that the student actually wants to be at tutoring sessions. There is no benefit to tutoring sessions where the student has no respect or inclination to listen to a tutor. 1-on-1 or small group tutoring gives the student the attention that they may be lacking from a classroom environment, so this is the perfect…

Try make tutoring fun, students no matter how hard you try will not retain information and be willing to learn if they are really against it. So by presenting the content in a fun but still effective manner, it is bound to show results. The most important thing when it comes to content is to not spoon feed them with the right answers, you need…

I think that being patient and empathetic are two of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. A good tutor will be patient as well as a good listener. Addressing the students' queries, errors with honesty yet with empathy. A good tutor should be willing to be dynamic in their teaching style, so as to engage the learners. Additionally, a tutor should be willing to share their own experiences and draw parallels with their students. I…

Local Reviews

We had a very good experience with Ezy Math. They were very proactive and great to deal with. When the first tutor we hired didn't work for us, we requested a change and they were quick to find us a replacement who was excellent. Jenny Wong is a great math Tutor and was kind, compassionate, patient and excellent at tutoring Maths. My daughter really benefited greatly and built much confidence and did well under her tutoring. Ezy Math regularly ask for feedback to see how things are going and are happy to work with you to make sure you have right tutor for your child.

Inside CamberwellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Adele worked on operations with decimals, including multiplying and dividing them, and practised applying place value concepts to support accuracy.

Year 7 student Mia reviewed algebraic expressions—simplifying, factorising, and expanding brackets—and explored multiplying exponents with the same base using step-by-step written explanations.

Meanwhile, Jaidan in Year 8 focused on mastering Pythagoras' theorem by breaking down the formula's application to right-angled triangles and also spent time reviewing his recent test to address specific misunderstandings in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, one student often guessed answers for worded division problems or larger multiplication facts instead of working them out, saying "it's too hard" before attempting. This led to repeated confusion with remainders and symbol meanings.

In Year 7, another student rushed mental arithmetic rather than writing clear steps—"he prefers rushing through his working rather than writing it out step by step," a tutor noted—which made it difficult to track down errors in negative number calculations.

By Year 10 algebra, skipping written working meant sign errors went unnoticed until results were checked at the end, leading to frustration when mistakes accumulated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Camberwell noticed Jayden's answers have become more structured and thorough—he now explains each step in algebraic problems, rather than just giving the final answer.

Jaidan, a high school student who previously struggled with Pythagoras' theorem, was able to spot where he'd gone wrong on his last test and corrected his approach when reviewing practice questions.

Meanwhile, Mia has started asking for clarification instead of skipping tricky worded maths problems; this shift means she now completes most multi-step questions independently, including finding 10% off prices and calculating change with decimals.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camberwell Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Camberwell Girls Grammar School.
