A tutor needs to be able to make sessions engaging and enjoyable so their students will want to come back to each lesson. They need to also be able to be someone students can trust and feel comfortable with as they do spend a lot of time together. The hard work and determination I have to make sure my students can learn as much as possible means I…

I believe its important to assist a student enough so they can increase their confidence and become better independent learners. This may include encouraging students to discover different study strategies and asking them open-ended questions to promote independent thinking. Being open to a student's feedback and insights is of high importance,…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to make the student feel at ease with the subject at hand, especially to the point where they begin their own individual methods of inquiry into the subject. A student should never feel under pressure to perform in ways that make them feel discouraged about their own abilities. The consequence of that is…

Tutors should be resourceful, considering varying teaching methods to allow students to more easily understand concepts. Tutors should work within the abilities of the students and therefore should…

As well as being able to be conscience yet specific of the needs of the student, as mentioned before, I believe the most important skills required of a tutor is being punctual and organised. This involves having a clear lesson plan in order to make the session as efficient as possible. In addition, it is of most importance the tutor is well…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be able to build a good rapport with their student, as this is beneficial in not only creating an enjoyable and ideal learning environment, but also to build a connection that can facilitate a deeper understanding about the student, how they learn, and how they study. In my opinion, building a student’s confidence and providing friendly assistance is the best any tutor can do for their students. As someone who has received tutoring in the past, I know how much of a difference these simple things can make to a nervous or hesitant student. I believe my strongest attributes as a tutor are that I am very patient,…

Helping them to develop their own learning style, or styles, to perform in a variety of circumstances is one of the most critical things a tutor can impart on a student. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to challenge yet support them in their studies. By challenging the student to do better, yet simultaneously reminding them that it is okay to fail, the student will feel inspired enough to try. I think the best thing a tutor can do is provide a safe and supportive environment for students. Inside CammerayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 students like Olivia revised perimeter and volume, tackling practice problems and textbook exercises to solidify their understanding; meanwhile, Year 10 student Ethan worked through algebraic fractions and practiced factoring trinomials to improve his manipulation of expressions.

For Year 11, Sam focused on differential calculus using the power rule and also applied the chain rule in various function-based questions for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's written work in algebra was hard to follow—presentation made it difficult to spot errors or track working, as a tutor noted: "Her layout in solving equations was messy and steps were easy to miss."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student preparing for advanced maths tended to rely heavily on formulas rather than building intuitive understanding during trigonometry revision.

In Year 7, late homework submission and incomplete practice questions led to weaker recall of volume concepts.

For a senior (Year 12) student, discouragement after a tough exam meant feedback wasn't always reviewed, slowing improvement in graphing skills.

Recent Achievements

One Cammeray tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitation, completed textbook calculus exercises entirely without guidance for the first time.

In Year 8 maths, another student who previously needed reminders to double-check answers started working through multi-step equations independently and now self-corrects mistakes on the spot.

A Year 4 learner, once reluctant to participate in group problem-solving, confidently shared her method for finding the area of a triangular prism during their last session and explained each step to classmates.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Kicking myself for not starting tutor earlier! It would have helped tremendously with Jayden's studies and being able to work independently!

We had the first session with Nick today and he was fantastic! He focused on the right areas and really engaged with Yvette....I think we are on the right track.

Tabinder has made Leon come a long way in the last 2 weeks and he is quite proud of his achievements.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Naremburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cammeray Public School.
