I realize tutoring is not just about being a private teacher who delivers knowledge outside of school. It is also about being a mentor, a facilitator, a friend who can help learners grow and develop good habits in order to have the best performance in learning. Besides, the tutor is the one who understand the student' strengths and weaknesses in…

A tutor should be able understand the learning style of a student and have the ability to explain a concept in multiple ways to ensure that the student is confident with a concept.…

A tutor has to be patient and welcoming for their students. The reason these students come for tutoring is because they face difficulty keeping up with school. So they should be given the space to understand at their own pace, in their own method and a teacher needs to recognize that. We need to recognize the method which we choose to teach a…

I think spending time to change your whole approach of teaching because one of your student is unable to understand the whole content. Being honest and flexible is very important things a tutor can have. Flexible, patient, good listener and helping nature. Being flexible about the teaching approach because every individual has different way of…

A vital aspect of tutoring is being non-judgemental. it is important for a tutor to make the student feel comfortable to share if they do not understand something or are struggling. If a student feels as if they will be judged or considered inadequate they are less likely to come to tutor’s for help. Building a strong relationship is extremely…

Understanding the student by listening carefully to them is important so you know the best way to help them with any problems. Having faith and trust in a student is also very important and enables them to build self confidence and trust within themselves and their ability to solve problems. I believe that in order for anyone to understand the material being taught - the tutor must begin with the fundamentals and basics; breaking down the information and then ensuring the student is able to explain it back is what I believe works best. This requires patience, which I believe is an essential quality a tutor must maintain in order for…

A tutor can make learning enjoyable by emphasising on the practical aspects and usage. It is also incumbent upon the tutor to help the student realise the difference learning brings in life and helps them make a responsible and better human being. Firstly, the most important thing that a tutor should do is build up confidence in their kids that they have the potential to achieve their goals and are destined for the best. This instantly boosts up the kids for striving for accuracy and their dreams. Secondly, a tutor should never be a demotivator in any manner. This is important as any…

A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Also, a tutor should know how to boost up the morale of a student when he/she is feeling low. If student is facing some…

Tutors are expected to bolster student grades however this is not their true purpose, A tutor should help to develop students to not only achieve greater marks but also to have a greater understanding of the field they are being tutored in. This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

Inside CampbelltownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Alex focused on constructing PEEL essay paragraphs for a TV show analysis, with guidance on word choice and literary techniques such as metaphor and theme identification.

In Year 11, Olivia worked through electromagnetic induction concepts including Faraday's Law and AC/DC generators, using diagrams to clarify how transformers function.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Max reviewed algebra involving fractions and practiced solving linear equations step by step for improved confidence.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 English, a student often capitalised words randomly and needed reminders to keep their novel on hand for essay evidence—one tutor noted, "quotes weren't ready when needed."

In Year 10, another tended to avoid asking for help when stuck in mathematics, meaning misunderstandings lingered longer than necessary.

For a Year 11 essay task, word count pressure led to skipping deeper analysis that could have strengthened arguments.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student did much of their working out mentally in maths rather than setting it out clearly, which made error-tracking harder and slowed progress during revision.

Recent Achievements

One Campbelltown tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 12 student who used to write vague essays—this time, he not only structured his work clearly but added much more detailed evidence than in previous attempts.

Another high school student, previously hesitant to ask questions, has started openly requesting help when stuck instead of working in silence, which led her to successfully tackle some tricky practice problems on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who struggled to keep focused during reading sessions managed to maintain attention throughout the lesson and finished all assigned comprehension questions without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Charles Campbell College.
