Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. I am a 3rd year biomedical engineering student…

I think a physics tutor can boost the confidence of a student immensely. When the student understand and solves a problem, it improves their confidence and helps them in not only academic progress but also in their personal development. I believe that with proper encouragement and tutoring, the student can benefit significantly. Patience and time…

The most important thing about tutoring is to ensure the students learn strategies to learn new mathematical concepts, so they can succeed on their own. This is because if a physics tutor were to consistenly helep a student by giving answers, the tutor is not going to accompany the students into their exams, and so the students may feel lost…

The most important thing for a physics tutor to do is not to continuously teach a concept but to teach it once (if the student has not learnt properly from school) and solidify that knowledge. It's also important to be not only a tutor, but a mentor as well. Strengths:: *Strong Communication of Ideas *Experience with Tutoring of all…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When a physics…

I believe a physics tutor can impact student's lives by providing the foundation he needs for further studies. A student with a poor concept might some how pass but he will struggle in the future, or looses interest in that subject. Hence a tutor can strengthen that foundation, at the same time be a source of motivation and a be a big brother. My…

Building a supportive, mentor-like relationship is vital. When students feel comfortable and valued, their learning potential soars. A tutor should adapt their teaching style to match the…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine…

Louise, Campsie

Inside CampsieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alice practised adding and subtracting fractions in mixed numeral form, then worked through area calculations for quadrilaterals and circles using visual aids.

In Year 8, Jack focused on solving linear equations involving one or two variables and manipulating algebraic expressions to isolate the subject.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia tackled quadratic equations by revising factorisation methods and applying the quadratic formula to solve for roots.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often skipped showing working in algebra, making it hard to spot sign errors—he jumped straight to the answer but missed a negative.

In Year 10, one learner avoided writing out steps for surd simplification, leading to repeated calculation slips.

A Year 3 student lost focus during number-writing tasks and sometimes wrote '6' backwards; when questions felt too challenging, she hesitated to attempt them at all.

For a senior student preparing for Year 12 maths, incomplete homework meant gaps in understanding quadratic equations lingered into new lessons, leaving her less confident tackling unfamiliar problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Campsie noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who used to get stuck on logarithmic functions—by the end of the lesson, she could confidently set up and solve each type without prompts.

In another session, a Year 9 boy, who often made small errors when working fast, completed his worksheet without mistakes for the first time.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who had previously hesitated to read aloud managed to finish an entire book independently, only pausing briefly on unfamiliar words before sounding them out herself.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

So far Katie has been prompt, personable and prepared. As you say it is very early days -we are only just getting to the point where we are clear on where she is at and where she needs to be.

Yes we are happy with Kavindu. Emily seems more confident with one on one home tutoring than class tutoring. thanks

He's here now, drinking miso and walking Em through Pythagoras (poor sole). It's all good.  She appreciates this time and enjoys his learning insights so that's a winner.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Earlwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Campsie Public School.
