I think that this does vary student to student (haha sorry bit of an off question-answer!) But largely and for those that are shy it's being approachable and this means anything the student doesn't understand, the student should be eager to ask you if you are approachable. And for those who aren't so shy and often at a higher level too, my answer…

Besides achieving acad3mic grades, i believe teaching the kids about respect and boundaries are just as important. The best way to teach them this is froma young age so they can properly grow into a respectable adult Since i am not too old yet, i believe i can connect with the kids better than most people. I think that as a tutor, we should be different from teachers at school. We should provide extra care to their needs and catering to what areas of a particular topic they are struggling with, in order for them to improve. Therefore, I think that conducting a personalized teaching plan for the students to observe and explore what methods they can…

The most important thing a tutor should be able to do for a student is to help them understand the content that they are required to learn, to break it down in such a way that it is easier to digest, learn, and retain. I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach him different things while motivating the student and making sure he/she/they understand the essence of the teaching so that they can apply it in daily life rather than asking them to memorize different things. This way the students not only get good grades but also store whatever…

Keeping them interested in the subject, making them believe that it's not just about marks, but understanding. Making them to fall in love with the subject. A tutor frames the way the students learn different things. As being experienced studying the same things, he/she can make the pathway of learning quite easier for the students. A tutor can be a friend and at the same time motivate students and teach them how to stay motivated. Not only this, a tutor can change the life of students by sharing…

In my point of view, the most important part of tutoring is to simplify topics and make them easy for students to understand. I always try to match my teaching style to each student’s way of learning. I use clear speech and body language to make sure they stay interested. Even if the topic is hard or boring at first, I break it down into small,…

Inside CarlisleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised multiplying and dividing mixed fractions, along with converting between decimals, percentages, and fractions.

In Year 8, Mia focused on factorising algebraic expressions and worked through simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas reviewed trigonometry by solving for unknown angles in right-angled triangles and revised the use of Pythagoras' theorem with practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Chemistry student found it challenging to identify unknowns during assessment prep, needing extra time to memorise her plan—she will also be memorising her plan for her assessment, noted the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student's incomplete notes on biology cycles meant confusion when revising key processes.

In Year 3 maths, messy working and reliance on blocks slowed progress in subtraction; skipping pen-and-paper practice made online lessons less effective for another student.

For a senior accounting task, overuse of the calculator hid gaps in understanding worded finance questions, leaving some answers unexplained during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Carlisle tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on trigonometry now confidently chooses the right rule for finding unknown angles, needing far less prompting than before.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a student who was previously unsure about planning investigations can now lay out steps to identify unknowns and solve simple problems mostly unaided.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often guessed answers has started asking for help when needed—last session, she explained her thinking during a fractions task instead of staying quiet or rushing through mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carlisle Primary School.
