To give the student confidence and show them that the subject is not beyond their understandings. Prove that It's not difficult but needs to be approached correctly. Almost all students have more than enough talent to do their study, the most import thing in tutoring is to help them to uncover that (sometimes) hidden talent. In addition to my…

The most important thing for a physics tutor is that they further the learning and understanding of their student. An important role of the tutor to do this is to assist the student to learn in a way they can understand. I believe that the tutor should make it easier for the student to learn the fundamental concepts. I have a strong understanding…

The most important thing I can do for a student is providing the tools and resources to be able to tackle problems independently, no matter the difficulty. To do this, it is important to design personalised methodologies that allow students to learn the basic knowledge, get familiar with some examples and then put into practice what was learned…

The assistance for gaining problem solving ability allows the student to solve about 50% of the task and remaining 50% comes with practice. This aspect to develop Problem solving skills is essential and most important thing a physics tutor can do. I can explain any concept given to me in the my domain with the most rudimentary approach. More important than anything else, an effective tutor must be able to meet the student at their level, whether that is their level of understanding or lack thereof of a given topic, or even going the extra mile and addressing external circumstances they face that affect their academic performance. Most important thing for any tutor is to understand their student well. If they know the students quite well only then they could develop the educational materials and classes that caters the student's need. Next big thing is encouraging the students and help them maintain a positive attitude. Only if the student is motivated and have positive…

For me, the most important thing a physics tutor can provide a student is confidence. It is paramount that a tutor encourages the student to become intrinsically motivated to study and to cultivate a love for the subject, as this will allow the student to fully achieve their potential. Ensuring that a student has confidence and self belief can be…

I consider a physics tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor…

In my opinion, there are three main factors to consider: 1) Solve all the doubts that the student has. 2) Encourage students to continue exploring in depth the topic that is learned. so he can better understand what he is studying only if he can constantly practice. 3) Encourage students to ask, to do research, to challenge themselves in…

I think that it's really important to be a good listener so that you can use feedback from students to improve your teaching. Not everyone learns in the same way so it's really important to work with each student to find the learning tehniques that work best for them. It's also important to recognise that each student could prefer different…

Listen to a student from the heart, lead and help a student to establish confidence of the subject. Inside CarlisleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised multiplying and dividing mixed fractions, along with converting between decimals, percentages, and fractions.

In Year 8, Mia focused on factorising algebraic expressions and worked through simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas reviewed trigonometry by solving for unknown angles in right-angled triangles and revised the use of Pythagoras' theorem with practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Chemistry student found it challenging to identify unknowns during assessment prep, needing extra time to memorise her plan—she will also be memorising her plan for her assessment, noted the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student's incomplete notes on biology cycles meant confusion when revising key processes.

In Year 3 maths, messy working and reliance on blocks slowed progress in subtraction; skipping pen-and-paper practice made online lessons less effective for another student.

For a senior accounting task, overuse of the calculator hid gaps in understanding worded finance questions, leaving some answers unexplained during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Carlisle tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on trigonometry now confidently chooses the right rule for finding unknown angles, needing far less prompting than before.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a student who was previously unsure about planning investigations can now lay out steps to identify unknowns and solve simple problems mostly unaided.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often guessed answers has started asking for help when needed—last session, she explained her thinking during a fractions task instead of staying quiet or rushing through mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carlisle Primary School.
