Firstly to help a student understand the concepts, theory and ideas of the subject. And then to help them see the relevance of those concepts, theory and ideas. Because once they see how relevant those ideas are in our world today, then they'll remember it. I like to ask meaningful questions, questions which reveal to me the students perspective…

In my perspective, a tutor must be able to properly assess the student's needs - whether they are struggling with eg multiplication, or understanding of algebra that make it hard for them to do harder questions, or even motivation or confidence issues, or comprehension problems, and to be able to adapt to these need/s of the students and improve…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them understand. Memorising content is useful, but without understanding, the brain soon discards it as unimportant. Understanding allows students to see the bigger picture and how concepts tie together. Memorising forces students into a box, where questions outside of what they’ve…

I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. I believe that teachers/tutors make the greatest impact on a developing child or young adult's mind. Apart from the child's family, a teacher/tutor has the most influential face to face contact with a student, where it be as a mentor or as a friend. Hence, I strongly feel that tutors have the opportunity and responsibility to educate and develop a…

Help a student gain the confidence needed to know what they need to do in studying for a subject, as well as the desire to succeed in that area, knowing that they can with the required commitment. I would definitely recommend EzyMathTutoring. My son's understanding of maths has increased tremendously. He is happy to do extra work and is taking so much more pride in his mathematics. His grades have improved substantially and he classes maths as one of his favourite subjects. His tutor Stephen is very patient and great at explaining complex concepts. He gives my son a chance to find the answer himself, or asks him the right questions which assist him to find where he is going wrong. All of this has really assisted my son in building confidence in his ability to resolve complex maths problems. Stephen is also always very professional and on time.

Inside CarramarTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Zoe worked through volume and area problems, using diagrams to visualise calculations, and also consolidated her understanding of index laws.

Year 7 student Olivia focused on applying the area model and split technique for multiplication with multi-digit numbers, then practiced short division strategies.

Meanwhile, Year 3 student Jafar explored reading time to the minute and interpreting time phrases, while strengthening his place value skills through partitioning numbers into standard and non-standard forms.

Recent Challenges

In Year 5, Zoe's progress was limited by incomplete homework and frequent distractions—such as turning off her camera or playing with nearby objects—which led to missed practice with times tables and division. "She is easily distracted by her surroundings," a tutor noted after a session on decimals.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 mathematics, Emily rarely completed homework, so formulas for volume and area weren't memorised and working steps were skipped or unclear.

For Jafar (Year 7 English), hesitation and lack of confidence meant he often said "I don't know" before attempting answers, especially when asked to elaborate on his reasoning during persuasive writing.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Carramar noticed that Emily, a high school student, is now able to rapidly solve complex index law questions without hesitation—a big step up from when she'd get stuck applying more than one rule at a time.

Another recent win came from Jafar, who used to avoid asking for help but has started requesting extra thinking time and explaining his reasoning aloud, especially during proofreading exercises.

For a younger learner, Zoe was eager to tackle her maths worksheets independently this week and even worked ahead without prompting—something she hadn't done before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carramar Public School.
