In my perspective, the most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student are to make sure that the student is well-prepared both academically, and mentally (e.g. stress management etc.). I think my strengths are my communication skills and holistic approach to teaching, built upon a large amount of prior tutoring…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is to enable a student with essential skills, both related to subject taught, as well as life skills. In this way, the student can go on to become an independent learner. My strengths are in being able to put myself in the child's shoes and explain the way he/she wants it. My weakness is that I…

Working with students can be a challenge, especially if we're meeting to help them bring up low grades. One thing I do when I meet the student for the very first time is to ask them questions about their interests, like sports, school subjects, music and movies. In the math problems that I create, I incorporate references to these interests. It…

Be patient with them. They do not have the same experience that we have so it might be difficult for them to grasp or even explain what they don't understand but they will eventually be able to gain an understanding of it when you try explaining it to them from a different perspective - Patient - Flexible in teaching styles and explains concepts…

One of the most important things a chemistry tutor can do for the student is to, engage with them to make the lessons fun yet still learning valuable content along the way. In this way, the student will look forward to the meetings every week instead of dreading them as some students do. My strengths as a tutor is that i have had 4 years of…

Help them achieve their goals. It isn't about getting the highest marks, it's about improving and feeling good about going into tests and exams and feeling confident you know the material. Being able to complete tests to the best of your ability is always the main goal. Slow and detailed explanations of the topic. I'm really good at going in depth…

A tutor should identify the students' areas of weakness and focus on helping the students gain knowledge in these areas rather than teaching the student what they already know. I believe a chemistry tutor can uplift the confidence of a student by encouraging him/her every step of the way which will benefit the students in their future. I would say breaking down a complex matter into a simpler solution so that the concept is easier to grasp for the students. Making the lessons easier by using storytelling as examples when…

I consider working on the clarity of concept as the most important thing. The concept once built, can be polished by recalling it several times when solving directly or indirectly related problems. Overall, the student should be able to process new information and solve the related problems on its own. My strengths are as follows: 1. The way…

I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is be supportive. All behaviour is belief driven, if a tutor convinces a pupil that he can do it, he will. I believe a chemistry tutor can help a student find the most suitable way to learn a subject that they might be struggling with in a traditional classroom. Inside Carss ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava focused on graphing linear equations and finding the equation of a line using coordinates, practising both plotting and algebraic representation.

In Year 9, Liam worked through applications of Pythagoras' Theorem to solve right-angled triangle problems, reinforcing understanding with real-world scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Max tackled complex addition and subtraction with larger numbers and began exploring foundational multiplication skills through step-by-step practice and targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra progress was held back by not reviewing classwork between sessions; as one tutor noted, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week."

In Year 6 maths, a student often forgot methods taught for long division and multiplication, especially when notes were misplaced or left incomplete.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, homework wasn't finished and new vocabulary wasn't practiced in sentences—leading to less confidence during spelling activities.

Inattentiveness and distraction during lessons also caused missed instructions in both primary maths and secondary English.

Recent Achievements

One Carss Park tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with chemistry calculations now solving titration questions accurately after just one practice session.

Another high schooler, previously anxious about timed writing tasks, recently wrote a full TEEL paragraph under time pressure and even volunteered to read it aloud—something she avoided before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled to recall multiplication facts now completes smile-method long multiplication almost independently, correcting her own errors before being prompted and even choosing tougher questions for extra practice.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I'd care to share something with you.  Whilst our son, Jordan has yet of course to complete his HSC and not wishing to tempt fate, his trials are over.  Last year, Y11 he received the award for #1 ranking in general maths.  Unfortunately his teacher moved overseas and let's just say the relationship between him and his new teacher wasn't as before.  His ranking swiftly dropped to sub 15!  To compound matters, 10 students during Y12 dropped down from 'advanced' to 'general' pushing Jordan's overall ranking to sub 20. Then we came to you for help.  Since Jordan has been studying with Suraj his standards steadily began improving once again and we're extremely happy to report that Jordan's overall trial's exam results pushed him up to 4th.  Remember, this included those who dropped down to 'general.'  Now that's a positive outcome.  Naturally, full credit must go to Jordan but without your assistance we would be facing a very different outcome.

Nathan has really put great effort into getting to know Ronan, what makes him tick and where he can get the best out of him.

Everything is going well so far with Georgette and Sophia seems to enjoy the hour she has with her this week.  She appreciates some of the new strategies she has learnt.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blakehurst Public School.
