Inside CartwrightTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ariana reviewed her school exam, focusing on angle relationships and probability questions, and practiced recalling square roots and squares with rapid-fire questions.

Year 7 student Jasmine tackled long division using the HMSB method with simple divisors, and revisited equations involving time from her recent exam paper.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Tom revised compound events in probability as well as general probability problems to prepare for an upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

Ariana (Year 7) often leaves homework incomplete and skips key questions, especially in algebra and long division, making it difficult to build fluency.

When revising for maths exams, she focuses on multiple topics at once, which leads to overwhelm—she becomes very discouraged when she gets a few questions wrong and it's hard for her to regain confidence.

Her written working is often messy or partially done in her head, particularly in long division, so even correct answers are unclear.

Ariana also misplaces notes needed for angle problems; this disorganization meant time was lost relearning before assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cartwright noticed a Year 8 student who used to hesitate with long division now solves questions without help, even finishing homework error-free.

In a recent high school session, another student who'd previously mixed up algebraic expressions began identifying variables independently and could solve one-step equations using the correct inverse operation.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student—who struggled with reading graphs—can now create their own from data and explain what they show.

Last week, that same student finished all ten graphing problems solo, something he hadn't managed before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Baily. She is very competent in math, but is also a very good teacher.  She makes learning fun and the boys' relationship with her is developing well. As a person, Baily has a lovely manner about her, is very respectful, but confident.

We are happy with Jordan so far. He seems to have acknowledged the areas Kate has problems with and is giving her homework tasks for these, as well as helping with some current class topics. She already seems to be feeling better about maths.

We're really happy with Rachel, and Sophie is relating to her well. We are seeing positive results in Sophie's math grades at school already.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Miller Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cartwright Public School.
