Engineering Studies Tutor Bellbird, NSW
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be their best role model. I believe that the best way to teach is not by words but by actions. I can be flexible and can adjust to the needs of my students; I am approachable and sociable; and most importantly, I am confident that I can inspire them to pursue their…

Nathan was finding physics as a difficult subject but ever since we started tutoring with Rishi it has made a positive difference. Rishi is extremely committed and dedicated and we are looking to continue tutoring with Rishi for next year.

Inside CessnockTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Anna focused on solving linear equations and inequalities, practising simultaneous equations, and reviewing how to graph solutions.

In Year 10, Josh tackled surds and indices—simplifying fractional and negative powers—and worked through expanding expressions using index laws.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah explored complex numbers by converting between polar and Cartesian forms and applying the triangle inequality using diagram-based explanations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student's written maths solutions were often hard to follow, with steps left out or not clearly set out—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors. This made it tough to check answers and spot mistakes quickly.

In Year 7 English, one learner avoided writing ideas down for stories, hesitating over vocabulary and punctuation; as the tutor noted, planning was missing and sentences ran on.

A Year 5 student sometimes guessed answers under time pressure in maths rather than working them through, leading to confusion with negatives and rounding.

Recent Achievements

One Cessnock tutor noticed a high school student who used to skip tricky steps in algebra now methodically works through each one and even explains her reasoning out loud, showing a new willingness to tackle hard problems head-on.

Another older student, after struggling with persuasive writing, has begun weaving strong arguments into his speeches by deliberately using rhetorical questions and inclusive language—something he'd avoided before.

In a recent primary session, Olivia, who once hesitated on big multiplications, confidently tackled large number calculations without prompts and even spotted numerical patterns on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Timothy is very happy with how things are going with Jerome.  Tim feels like he is learning and is comfortable with Jerome who I have found to be a very polite young man.  Tim has not had any tests or exams since he began tutoring, I'm sure we will see an improvement at that time.

Hi Erica, everything good so far. Isaac is lovely and Adam appears to be relating well to him. He has had 2 recent Math tests and has seemed more relaxed about them so I think we're seeing some short term gains already.

Hi Erica, Yes all seems to be going well with Sean's tutoring. He responds well to Andy. Thanks

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cessnock City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Patrick's Primary School.
