The most important thing a tutor can do is support their student and give them the patience and understanding that learning is a difficult process and can take a long time. It is crucial to respect students and never put them down for their ability as everyone has the potential to learn many things at their own pace and in their own ways. I have a…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and empathetic with them. Learning from a tutor can be frustrating and tiresome, especially when the student is not getting it right. A tutor should have the ability to carry the student through this, encouraging and motivating them to achieve their best academic…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to what they are asking, and targeting their weak areas within the prospective subject. By doing so the tutor should aim to tailor each lesson accordingly. I think my strengths as a tutor would be my perseverance, clarity when explaining concepts, the ability to identify a…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is create a space that they feel comfortable to be challenged and to learn in. It’s one thing to just help with answering questions but to encourage and motivate students to take on the difficult concepts even when they're working on their own, this is crucial and shows growth.…

I consider many things which a tutor can do for a student like a tutor can also be a motivator for his students and motivate them to learn. He must clarify the concepts and solve the doubts of his students. A tutor can build a supportive & encouraging environment which can empower students to become independent learners. Being a tutor, I find my…

When I was at school, my favourite teachers were always the relatable ones who were genuinely interested in me, my hobbies and my life. This connection is important for many reasons, not only to be a good tutor but to also be a confidant in times of crisis. In the past I have worked with children who had special needs. Being close to the student…

Any tutor, mentor, educator, or teacher all have something different to offer their students: but the goal is the same and it should be this: to help empower those who can't empower themselves in order to bring forth the best version of that individual into the world. It is through education, knowledge and the reciprocation of knowledge that…

As tutors, the most important thing they can offer a student is the opportunity to improve their learning. Private tutoring differs from classes and group tutoring because tutors can efficiently find out the areas that the student struggles with the most and deal with the problem effectively. One of the most important things about being a tutor is…

The most important thing is that a tutor recognises a student as an individual; addressing areas where a student has little confidence while offering lifelong learning strategies. Inside Chester HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alessandro worked on mastering division skills, including identifying divisibility rules for numbers like 2, 3, and 6, and also reviewed multiplication techniques to boost speed.

For Year 7, Maya revised operations with fractions—adding, multiplying, subtracting, and dividing them—as well as converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Amir focused on algebraic laws and practiced applying index laws to simplify expressions ahead of his upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student often guessed answers in multi-step word problems instead of carefully breaking down each part, leading to confusion about what was actually being asked.

In Year 8 mathematics, skipping clear working and struggling with the placement of denominators and numerators when adding fractions made it difficult to catch calculation errors or retrace steps for corrections.

As one tutor noted, "He struggles with knowing the next step," especially during long division tasks. This habit sometimes left unfinished workings on the page, making it hard to check progress or understand mistakes after moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Chester Hill tutor noted a Year 9 student who used to hesitate with negative numbers now confidently solves addition and subtraction problems on a timeline without prompting.

A Year 10 student, previously reliant on hints for algebraic expressions, recently tackled expanding and evaluating indices independently during the session.

In primary, a Year 4 learner who would guess answers in reading tasks has begun slowing down to carefully read each question first, leading to more accurate responses.

Last week, she finished all ten comprehension questions without any errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tutoring has gotten off to a great start thankyou. Adrian is always on time and his professional & friendly manner has encouraged Erin to have a positive response to being tutored ( she was not keen initially) Erin is enjoying her session with Adrian and I can see her willingness to work with him will increase her confidence in maths in general.

We are very happy with Rachel. Natasha feels very comfortable with Rachel and they get along well. Natasha feels more confident about maths now and almost excited to do her maths test at school tomorrow. Rachel has applied learning techniques that work best for Natasha and she is very patient. Rachel is also a lovely girl and has a warm personality. We are very thankful to have her tutoring Natasha.

We are very happy with Chris and especially how Nathan is progressing. His confidence has lifted and he is very happy.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chester Hill Public School.
