The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be fun and engaging! While being a good tutor is just as important in improving a student’s need, I consider engaging lessons to be just as much of a factor in their learning as well! I believe my strengths as a tutor involves effective communication and a fun strategy to teach. I also…

As a tutor, I can advise a student on their study skills and motivation and most importantly, assist them if they have any difficulties learning something in a topic at school. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them a safe space where they can ask you about any problem without a hesitation and communicate in a way that makes the learner feel motivated, enthusiastic and confident in their ability to master and enjoy whatever challenges come along. In my view-point a tutor can highlight the problems of students and demosntrate other suitable methods to solve their issues and broaden their perspective. My goal is to determine the student's weakness and strengths, and through this help them reach their goal. Depending on the students, I will differentiate instructions to support the distinctive…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to make sure the student understands how to apply the knowledge to different types of questions instead of memorizing everything. This can be achieved by providing more practice questions for the student to do. I also think giving encouragements and teaching learning strategies are important for…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is create a space that they feel comfortable to be challenged and to learn in. It’s one thing to just help with answering questions but to encourage and motivate students to take on the difficult concepts even when they're working on their own, this is crucial and shows growth.…

Motivate their students. I have a motto that I tell all of my members: "It doesn't matter if we get it right or wrong. An incorrect answer is an opportunity to learn something new." It's something I truly believe and something the children I tutor respond really well to. It takes the pressure off the need to be perfect and instead focuses them on…

Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a tutor can do. A tutor should be able to understand a student very well and be with them when they are in need. I can easily understand a child’s weakness and will…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is serve as a secondary teacher/mentor to a school teacher. As school teachers have to focus on a large class (usually around 30 students), they are unable to address the needs of each student. As each student has their own struggles and needs, an exterior tutor provides…

Inside ChulloraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex worked through addition and subtraction of complex fractions, using step-by-step breakdowns to build confidence.

For Year 10, Sarah tackled box and whisker plots as well as introductory algebra, applying textbook questions to reinforce data analysis skills.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James focused on trigonometric identities and solving related homework problems, emphasising accurate manipulation of trig expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student became distracted and lost focus during algebra graphing tasks, leading to skipped steps and confusion over x- and y-intercepts—"paying attention gets easily distracted" was the tutor's note.

In Year 10, one learner struggled with non-calculator trigonometry, missing cases when solving equations because "she forgets to test cases that aren't always found while working out."

Meanwhile, a senior student in Year 12 rushed through integration problems involving logarithms; errors crept in as timing management slipped, so only half the intended questions were completed. Frustration grew as progress stalled mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Chullora tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who previously relied on their calculator now confidently tackles complex calculations entirely by hand, a big shift from earlier sessions.

Another high schooler in Year 10, who used to guess when stuck, has started pausing to ask clear questions about probability problems and then explains their reasoning out loud before trying solutions.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who was hesitant with angles last term showed new initiative—she broke down parallel line angle problems herself and double-checked her answers independently before moving on to the next set.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Greenacre Christian College.
