The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to increase their confidence levels. This is because a student should be confident about a subject or topic they struggled with after the tutor has helped them through it so that the student themselves are able to replicate the process and adapt to similar questions without any struggle…

Local Reviews

Soheil is a fantastic help to our son Jack. They are currently working together on year 11 specialist maths which Jack has been terrified of. With Soheil's assistance Jack is able to progress through the challenging content with relative ease. Soheil assigns Jack with manageable homework assignments to consolidate knowledge of any new content and he also provides extra relevant tests and exercises to test Jack's competency.

Inside ClagirabaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Tiah worked on scatterplot graphs and finding lines of best fit for her maths assessment, then used these equations to make predictions and calculate correlation coefficients.

In Year 10, Daniel focused on solving linear equations from graphs, identifying gradients and parallel lines, and later practiced the sine and cosine rules in trigonometry worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mani strengthened her understanding of quadratic equations by practicing factorising and applying the quadratic formula to various textbook questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in Chemistry often avoided writing down observations about graphs during assignments, making it harder to track insights for reports—"She should be writing down any observations we make about the graphs to help her later on."

Meanwhile, a Year 8 Maths student repeatedly forgot to bring a calculator, which slowed progress and led to incomplete practice with trig problems.

In Year 5, one learner hesitated when reading data sets and needed greater support analysing information from their workbook; missing this step meant they couldn't confidently answer follow-up questions.

In each case, process habits directly limited their ability to build independence.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Clagiraba noticed some great changes in their students recently. One high school student who used to struggle with linear graphing and trigonometry started doing her homework independently and now solves unit circle problems with much less guidance.

Another older student, Daniel, was previously hesitant to attempt complex index law questions, but this week he tackled multi-step problems on his own and even checked his solutions by comparing them to class examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who was unsure about telling time is now quickly recognising 'o'clock' times and can count confidently by twos up to 100 without prompts.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutoring sessions with Dominic are going very well. He has certainly helped Kailiana to gain confidence and skills in maths, while keeping a calm, friendly, and easy-going mood for the tutoring sessions. As any 8 year old does, Kailiana can get distracted from time to time, but Dominic has always taken this in stride, and been very creative in engaging with Kailiana in order to retain her attention. For example, there was one instance where she jumped up out of nowhere and decided to feed her goldfish in the middle of them trying to solve some questions about volume. Once she got back to the table Dominic asked her about her fish, and then changed the objects in the question they were solving to fish. He effectively got her back on track and engaged her attention in a warm and gentle way. Kailiana looks forward to her tutoring sessions, with is another testament to the good work Dominic has been doing with her.

Our daughter seems to respond well to Adam and even though it's still early days she is much more confident!

We are finding Eloise great. She is very good with Penny and has really listened to where Penny needs help with most and has prepared for her lessons well. We plan on keeping up tutoring as I think it's making a big difference with Penny's confidence at school. She has gone from below the expected level in term 1 report to at the the expected level for her end of year report.
