A tutor can improve one's overall understand of the subject, not just a specific understanding about a material. That is important because it is building the bigger picture of each subject in the long term. I am flexible in my teaching method, and I am able to adjust to each student depending on what they…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for students is making sure that the student completely understands the concept and does not try to rote learn it. I believe that a tutor is a person who can change the point of view of a student through which they can grasp the concept well and improves their understanding ability. I own…

Provide a guiding hand and be there for them when they need it without directly giving away the answer or solution to a problem. The struggle is where the learning happens and it's important to be there with them and help create a strong yet comfortable learning environment for them to excel in. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe, encouraging space where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. It’s not just about helping them understand the content, it’s also about building their self-belief and showing them that they "can" succeed. A good tutor should also adapt their…

Know your stuff. Always. As simple as it might sound, really bringing your students a reliable foundation of knowledge on the subject is always crucial. It doesn't mean that you ALWAYS have to know your stuff though, we are human, and human can sometimes afford not to know it all. This is when I would go on, do my research, and make sure the next…

According to me, the most important thing as a tutor is to try and try until the student understands, although it takes a lot of patience and time. It is also important to explore the student's best way of learning, which may include audio, visual, or kinesthetic, and make efforts to teach them accordingly. As a tutor, I first make my students…

Being able to teach a student enough material for them to be able to pass the class, that is what you are being paid to do. Understand them and their learning habits. If a tutor does not understand their student, they can never excel at tutoring that student or almost anyone. Helping a student grow and evolve. Other than imparting the lessons in school, I think being able to empathize with the students is key in effective teaching. As a matter of strategy, what I will do is to meet them where they are academically, then prepare a plan and implement it to be able to meet our goal(s). I have the ability to relate with young kids well. Raising three…

Our modern world is built around education and every student can expect to experience a lot of it in the future. Therefore, it is most important that a tutor should model genuine interest in learning (both the subject matter and how to learn well), so that the student him/herself enjoys the process and is encouraged to become a lifelong learner.…

I believe the most powerful way a tutor can aid a student is by giving them confidence. More than often, students can show more vulnerability in a one-on-one session than in a classroom surrounded by their peers, and so the best thing I can do is use these private sessions to impart confidence in the students by making them see ways they can…

I feel a tutor must be able to invoke a sense of interest and joy in a students minds for the subject they teach. This makes it difficult for tutors to reach their maximum potential while teaching…

Inside Clarence ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Molly focused on long and short division as well as rounding numbers to place value, using class homework tasks.

Year 9 student Ella worked through practice questions on ratios and began the new topic of probability, checking her understanding with example problems.

Meanwhile, Andrea in Year 11 tackled exponential equations and factorials, revising these concepts ahead of upcoming assessments by working through targeted textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

Hesitation to ask questions in class led to gaps in algebra and trigonometry for a Year 10 student—"she needed some prompting in order to make certain connections," one tutor noted.

In Year 11 Chemistry, a report draft lacked logical flow; missing structure made main points hard to follow.

A younger learner struggled with times tables and quick number recall without a calculator, often pausing on simple division.

For a Year 12 assessment, skipping careful reading of instructions meant vital details were missed and responses didn't match task requirements.

Confidence wavered after setbacks, making it harder to attempt more complex or unfamiliar problems independently.

Recent Achievements

A Clarence Park tutor noticed Molly taking real ownership of her learning—she arrived with tricky questions she'd flagged from class and, after some gentle prompting, tackled tougher problems on her own instead of waiting for help.

Erin in Year 12 made a shift by independently refining her research question and proactively planning which sources to use for her folio task—last term she often hesitated to make decisions without guidance.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised their tutor by spotting and correcting their own mistakes during worksheet time, something they previously avoided unless prompted.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

So far we are pretty happy with Daniel and his enthusiastic and focused approach. I think Cleo feels very comfortable with him and he has been able to help her manage her work load and advancing slowly to re gain her confidence. He has a lovely mature manner, a very likeable guy.

I have loved the opportunity to work for EzyMath over this past year and have really valued the experiences and skills I have developed over my time as a tutor.

Great Tutoring and marks are an improvement. Thank you for your persistence and patience!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Goodwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cabra Dominican College.
