The most important thing that is necessary in learning is that we understand what we study. Though it seems difficult, giving each student the individual attention is what a tutor should strive to achieve. The different mindsets in the class should be brought together and set in a pathway where they get excited about learning something new every…

The most important things a tutor can do are to provide clarity, encouragement, and structure. A tutor should simplify complex ideas, guide students through problems step by step, and foster a positive learning environment where questions are always welcome. Beyond teaching content, a tutor should help students develop problem-solving strategies,…

The most important thing is to make the student understand there is no reason to be disappointed. I also think that as a tutor, I should be able to teach a student how to be independent and think critically. If a student can solve a problem on her own after a successful session, my job is well done. Patience , Adaptability, Challenging…

Some of the most important things that a tutor can and should do for a student include: providing useful and timely support if needed, creating a supportive environment in which we can all learn and grow without being afraid of making mistakes, and helping students to identify and overcome their shortcomings to thrive academically. I acknowledge that passing on knowledge such as how to use Pythagoras is important, I would love to inspire students to love learning and being creative in the way that approaches a math issue. When students grow up, it is not the quadratic equations or math problems that helps them to thrive in higher education and life, but it is the ability to…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is paying attention. By doing so, a tutor can clearly identify where they are struggling, and then provided catered guidance as a response to that. It can also pinpoint a student's specific learning style, allowing further tailoring of sessions to mimic that. Further, it generally just shows the…

I believe the most important aspects of a tutor are to make learning enjoyable, to build confidence and to encourage a problem solving attitude. The more fun one can have learning, the more you want to try and work on your weaknesses. Being confident in yourself also improves the will to learn and problem solving builds resilience when answers…

I believe that the most important responsibility of a tutor is to inspire curiosity and passion for study among students. This can be done by making lessons much more interactive and fascinating, which will encourage them to study for themselves, not for the sake of someone else. Also, tutors should create an environment where students feel…

To me, the role of a tutor transcends the mere transfer of knowledge. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a source of unwavering support, guidance, and inspiration. It's about fostering a profound sense of belief in a student's potential, even when they may doubt themselves. Ultimately, the most important thing a…

I firmly believe that making student's confident about the subject is the most important thing. A tutor is someone who guides the student to the solution also letting the student explore the new entities. It is not like providing the question and the answer at the same time. A tutor must be able to win the heart of the student so the student loves…

The most prominent thing is to work according to the level of child. For example, some students love to study through animations and some by real world examples and also some by doing practicals or activities. Hence; its the duty of a tutor to find the way of teaching that interacts a student and make it interesting for a child to explore that…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to make learning fun and not tiring or boring. The subject taught or the way it's taught should always be exciting, even if the test marks are not that high yet. Inside ClaytonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Lucy worked through surface area and volume calculations in measurement, followed by trigonometry basics using visual aids.

For Year 10, Daniel focused on mastering linear equations and interpreting univariate data sets, with practice constructing and analysing graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah concentrated on bivariate data analysis and time series interpretation, applying these skills to real-world scenarios in her textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, a student left notes at school and relied on scattered digital files during finance revision; as the tutor observed, "he was flipping through pages to find a particular formula," which slowed progress and caused confusion with recurrence relations.

For VCE Maths Methods, another student frequently entered incorrect data into the CAS calculator or forgot to bring it home for practice, leading to incomplete preparation for graphing tasks.

Meanwhile, in Year 3 English, unclear punctuation and skipping question instructions—such as colouring more items than asked—created repeated misunderstandings mid-lesson that disrupted focus and accuracy.

Recent Achievements

One Clayton tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who now takes the lead in making clear, simplified notes during sessions—something he rarely attempted before—which has helped him remember key trigonometry tips from previous lessons.

In a senior session, another student tackled her Statistics test with noticeably more confidence, scoring 86 after consistently struggling on earlier assessments and using her calculator skills much more independently this time.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised his tutor by speaking up to ask for extra explanations about converting length units, rather than waiting passively as he had done at first.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clayton Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peter's School.
