A tutor should be supportive, patient and mostly he should help a student gaining confidence in himself. As an english tutor, he should always seek a way to simplify any educational lesson so that students feel excited and motivated to learn more. I think it's a question of what an english tutor can BE rather than do. I found in my experience that I always responded to teachers who were enthusiastic and portrayed a genuine care for the learning of the student. In a metaphorical sense, the tutor must think like a student in an empathetic way rather than merely be a one way stream of…

Finding out whether a student is a visual, auditory or kinesthetic learner is important. By discovering how the student learns best, I believe he will be able to reach his true potential. To do this, an english tutor must be malleable in his teaching methods and communication. Furthermore, it is crucial that the tutor and student create a bond…

A tutor should be able to empathise with their students, being able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their student and how the student can overcome their weaknesses and rely on their strengths, adapting to their needs. Weaknesses refer not to just academic shortcomings, such as a weaker spot for mathematics or English, but in a more…

I think adapting to students learning style is vital to allow for the most growth in their education. Tutors are exceptionally valuable as the one on one or small class dynamics allow for the specific needs of a student to be catered for, giving their learning attention in a way that can be difficult to access within the schooling system alone.…

The most important thing is to make sure that the student has completely understood the concept. It is useless to move forward if they don't understand the basics. Inside Clemton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and previewed long division, while also working on understanding maths in word problems through homework tasks.

In Year 8, Lucas focused on factorising quadratic equations and revising how to use the quadratic formula to solve them, including discussing what "roots" mean for parabolas.

Year 9 student Sarah worked on manipulating linear equations by making a variable the subject and used tables and graphs to explore relationships between variables.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided writing working for long division, preferring mental methods; this led to mistakes he couldn't check or fix—"He needs more practice to ensure he follows the new method instead of depending on his older method."

In Year 11 trigonometry, a tendency to regurgitate formulas without showing process meant errors went unnoticed.

For a Year 3 student, skipping homework and resisting new ways of setting out sums blocked progress with fractions.

Another in Year 7 hesitated to ask questions during algebra revision, missing feedback that would have clarified misconceptions and built confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Clemton Park tutor noticed a big change in Willa, a high school student who used to get stuck on wordy maths problems—she now asks questions when unsure and recently solved several tricky ones on her own using new strategies.

Cooper, also in high school, shifted from waiting for hints to actively looking for solutions and tackling quadratic equations with much more independence than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously needed help reading longer passages managed to read an entire book out loud solo this week, only stumbling over a couple of words.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Terence , James seems to be making good progress at getting the basics of his 3 unit course. Terence is very calm, methodical and can simplify maths steps/working and James is responding very well to Terence's teaching style! Terence so far is very knowledgeable on the maths topics James is covering in class. Terence has also been very flexible & accommodating with postponing/adding lessons as required which we are very appreciative. We have been very pleased with our experience with tutoring so far!

Cohen has been very good and encouraging. I feel that Olivia is starting to feel more confident with her maths. Thanks.

Everything is going well with Warit. Evan is happy with him so far. I trust that will continue.  He's comfortable to ask if he doesn't understand something. Warit has given Evan some good maths tips with his times tables that Evan has understood.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley North Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clemton Park Public School.
