I believe that the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to constantly remind them about the fruits that hard work will reward them with, both with their academic life along with their life experience, helping with both the self-discipline as well as the maturity of the student. I believe my strengths in a tutor lie in both my…

If students aren’t interested in mathematics or other subjects, a tutor can help to increase their knowledge, and it can increase their interest in the subject(s). I believe it is important to be patient, organised and most of all always available as a resource for them to use. When studying the higher levels of mathematics, it is important to be able to understand not only that you got a question wrong, but how you got it wrong and how you can correct this mistake in the future. This can be achieved through…

Inside CobbittyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ricky focused on algebra and indices, practising questions from recent worksheets and spending time consolidating his understanding of powers.

In Year 9, Patrick worked through quadratic equations and different methods of factorisation, as well as exponential equations and introductory differentiation using a practice test for assessment readiness.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jared reviewed trigonometry topics across the syllabus and revisited weaker areas identified from a recent school assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student arrived without their English book for several sessions and submitted incomplete homework; as noted, "homework was clearly started 5 mins before my arrival," making it hard to build on prior work.

In senior Chemistry (Year 12), revision focused mainly on equations already understood, avoiding less familiar material—this meant gaps in exam preparation.

A Year 11 maths student relied heavily on emailed homework reminders but left tasks unfinished, missing out on vital practice before HSC assessments.

One younger learner's untidy written explanations in problem-solving often hid the actual steps taken, leaving errors hard to spot when reviewing together.

Recent Achievements

One Cobbitty tutor noticed that a Year 10 student, after months of hesitation, now brings in her assessment tasks to sessions and confidently links class work to tutoring, showing much more initiative than before.

In another session, a senior student who previously needed frequent prompting with trigonometric identities was able to independently solve intermediate LHS/RHS equations and even explained a new calculation trick back to the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who used to wait for help has started attempting "quick write" activities on the spot—volunteering ideas out loud instead of staying quiet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Narellan Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cobbitty Public School.
