I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and confident. A lot of students actually understand more than they think, but they might be anxious, unsure, or afraid of making mistakes. So I see my role as creating a space where they feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. Another…

So as a tutor, we have too teach the students in a simple way such that they can easily understand the concepts and they can apply that in real life. The most important thing is allowing students to become independent. The tutor should show them how to solve problems so that they can do them themselves and not just solve problems for them. My strength is illustrating concepts and finding the right examples that explain the point best. I also have good communication skills that make the student…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is that they have the drive and the patience for them until they learn. The whole point of why we tutor kids is for them to learn and apply what they know. You also need to love the student and take care of them as a mother does to their kids. My strengths as a tutor are: - I have patience…

As a math and physics tutor, motivating students to do more practice questions is the best thing I can do for them. My legacy for students is for them to feel inclined in doing more and more questions, it is from there a passion…

A good tutor will work themselves out of a job. This is because a good tutor will not only teach the student the content but also how to learn. Therefore the student will be able to become independent of the tutor and then be able to teach other students. I am able to explain concepts clearly and concisely in a number of different ways. Thereby…

I think it would be the unlimited support and confidence the tutor has for their student as well as their passion for their subject they are teaching. If the student feels like their tutor listens to them and has confidence in their potential, then in due time, the student will likely flourish and develop their abilities. A lot of the time…

Being persistent should be the vital attitude for a tutor. We are very happy with our experience so far. It was simple to arrange and there was no problem finding a tutor available at the time we needed. We chose EzyMath tutoring as it was the only company that didn't send endless texts and emails to get us to sign up. The tutor arrived on time and kept my daughter engaged on maths the entire hour. Although she doesn't love maths (yet) the look of pride on her face after each session has been amazing.

Inside CoburgTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ava practised addition and subtraction using a number line, and worked through NAPLAN-style word problems.

In Year 10, Jasmine focused on solving and rearranging algebraic equations as well as revising linear equations in preparation for her test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emmanuel explored circular functions—graphing sine and cosine—and tackled trigonometric equations to prepare for his upcoming CAT assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student became overwhelmed when facing unfamiliar algebra problems and tended to freeze rather than attempt different strategies, as noted: "He easily gets overwhelmed when faced with an unfamiliar problem."

In Year 11 calculus, skipping careful reading of questions led to repeated errors during CATs; one tutor observed he "needed to read the question more carefully."

Meanwhile, a primary student working on subtraction sometimes forgot to borrow but quickly improved once reminded.

For a Year 8 student, untidy written work in dividing polynomials meant errors went unnoticed until final checks.

These moments often left students frustrated or second-guessing themselves mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Coburg recently noticed Emmanuel, a Year 12 student, tackling complex numbers for the first time—a notoriously tricky topic—but he managed to grasp key ideas right away after struggling with similar advanced material last term.

Yvonne, also in high school, has shifted from relying on hints to independently placing angles and finding reference angles on the unit circle during calculus sessions.

Meanwhile, Jett in primary school explained multi-digit subtraction using an algorithm out loud—something he was hesitant to do before—and now confidently checks his own answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Islamic College of Sport.
