As a tutor, it is important that you pass on the right knowledge to the student. Make them think about things by themselves instead of giving them straight away. A tutor, shouldn't discourage students if they ask a dumb question, they should resolve all their queries with a good understanding. A tutor's job is to support a student and be curious…

- Help them overcome confidence barriers and the misguided notion that intelligence is the only true metric for academic success - developing a relationship with the student to engage them with the topic and hence maximise the content covered in a session - help them develop a study system whereby they can achieve the highest academic…

The most important things I can do for a student is that I will not only be a tutor but a mentor and a study buddy to help students through their school year and reach those desired marks that we have worked hard for. I am very friendly and optimistic, making my lessons more lively and enjoyable. I am also detailed, which allows myself to be…

Engineering Studies Tutor North Narrabeen, NSW
It's the responsibility of a tutor to meet students where they are at. Tutors should come to learn the boundaries of what their students do and do not understand and create structure and context for pushing those boundaries to ultimately envelop the knowledge they need to succeed. This can sometimes mean "back-filling" missing knowledge or…

The most important things a tutor can do are to completely understand the concepts and explain them to the students in a clear and logical way. It is also very important to continually get feedback from the student to ensure that they are understanding the concepts. My strengths are my experience with mathematical concepts, and explaining concepts…

- I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to set a role model and attempt to invigorate a strong love of learning within the student. By doing this, the tutor can give the student an opportunity to make greater academic progress individually in combination with the tutor. - Obviously, tutors must also be able to effectively assist…

I believe its important to assist a student enough so they can increase their confidence and become better independent learners. This may include encouraging students to discover different study strategies and asking them open-ended questions to promote independent thinking. Being open to a student's feedback and insights is of high importance,…

Engineering Studies Tutor Fairlight, NSW
I truly believe that teaching students how to learn and find their own motivations to study is the best thing a tutor will do. This is a skill that will last a lifetime. I’ve done a lot of complicated study and am well versed in breaking large concepts into smaller, more manageable ideas which would aid me as a…

Engineering Studies Tutor Belrose, NSW
Genuinely care about how they’re doing, and to not give up on them. If they don’t understand a concept, try something new, don’t keep trying to push that single way of looking at the problem. My genuine passion for it, also I am very patient. With my tutoring in the past, I’ve spent entire lessons on one very simple concept, attacking it…

Inside CollaroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Anan focused on PEEL paragraph structure with an emphasis on crafting clear topic sentences, and analysed poetry by Auden.

Year 12 sessions included detailed comparative analysis of The Tempest and Hag-Seed for the Textual Conversations module, as well as composing creative responses that explored Atwood's reimagining of imprisonment themes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student worked through algebraic equations and practiced interpreting functions and their graphs using real examples from recent homework.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 English, writing habits affected progress: planning was often skipped, leading to weak thesis statements and underdeveloped essay structure. One tutor noted, "He started essays without a clear plan, which made topic sentences vague."

In Year 9 Mathematics, over-reliance on finger counting for times tables slowed down complex multiplication; a student repeatedly paused during multi-step problems to count rather than recall.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 Science projects, translating research into presentation format proved challenging—notes were gathered but not organized into a final product.

Each instance left less time for deeper analysis or independent application of skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Collaroy noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously struggling to connect ideas in essays, now confidently links and explains her arguments using improved PEEL structures.

Another high school student made a noticeable leap by applying formulas independently to tackle complex area questions—something he found daunting just weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was hesitant to ask questions now enthusiastically seeks clarification and has begun tackling long multiplication without prompting.

Last session, she completed all her single-digit multiplication problems from memory and explained each step aloud.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes , I am very pleased with Ed. Early days and my daughter has been a little reticent and awkward about having a tutor however I am going to make her stick it out . I however, am  very pleased with Ed and his approach with Olivia Look forward to seeing some results in the near future

I'm very happy with the progress that Abbey is making with Isabel, Isabel had lost most of her confidence in her ability to do her school work. Abbey's positive approach to Isabel's work is starting to reflect on Isabel.

Caroline is fabulous. We have had complicated family issues in the last month and will be getting back on track in term 4 and expect to have Caroline each week until after exams. Many thanks
