A tutor should help students build confidence in their abilities. This involves providing encouragement, positive reinforcement, and constructive feedback to help students recognize their strengths and overcome challenges. As a tutor, I believe my strengths lie in several key areas: 1. Effective Communication: I can explain complex concepts in…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is create a space that they feel comfortable to be challenged and to learn in. It’s one thing to just help with answering questions but to encourage and motivate students to take on the difficult concepts even when they're working on their own, this is crucial and shows growth.…

I consider many things which a tutor can do for a student like a tutor can also be a motivator for his students and motivate them to learn. He must clarify the concepts and solve the doubts of his students. A tutor can build a supportive & encouraging environment which can empower students to become independent learners. Being a tutor, I find my…

1. Personalize the learning. every student is different, so what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. 2. Be ready to help. As the job entails, the tutor must be willing to work according to the student's desire. 3. Teaching them how to learn. the ultimate goal of the tutor is teaching the students how to learn and apply. I am…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is to provide individualised instruction, as well as a safe and non-judgemental learning environment to student, something that they may not be able to obtain in a normal big-size class with limited time to teach an increasingly information-heavy curriculum. I have been tutoring students…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide guidance that goes beyond the subject content. That means helping students develop good study habits, organisation, and confidence in their own ability to improve. Education is very important in today's societies, many parents hire tutors to help their children catch up or keep up in school subjects where they are having difficulties and have fallen behind their peers. To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

A tutor should have good listening skills so that they will better understand students' misconceptions and struggles. It is important to treat each student and how you go about emphasising the content to the students uniquely. A good tutor should aim to be relatable and open to share own experiences with learning and highlight that it isn't an…

A tutor can encourage a student that they can do it. There is no word as no. Teacher's need to imbibe confidence in students especially those who are failing to acheive and give them a reason to do well in their studies. Teacher's need to be patient as well. I believe it's important for tutors to ensure that their students see them as a not only in a 'teacher' role, but someone they could look to advice if they ever feel the need - like a role model, or a mentor. Tutors should help their students gain confidence in their ability to achieve their goals, and by establishing small, achievable milestones…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide a strong foundation of understanding for all subjects and concepts. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. This is something I personally found…

Instilling confidence in them - especially when it comes to subjects like Math, students have kind of been programmed to think of it as a difficult subject and to fear it. Inside Concord WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Nick completed an English assessment focused on oral communication, reading comprehension, and writing skills such as organising ideas and editing.

In Year 11, Sophie reviewed the causes of inflation—including demand-pull, cost-push, and imported inflation—and explored how inflationary expectations affect the economy.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Daniel tackled Australia's Balance of Payments by breaking down the Current Account and Capital and Financial Account, then worked through measuring relative exchange rates using both individual currencies and the Trade Weighted Index.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Economics, one student relied heavily on scanning class notes without pausing to make their own summaries or practice deeper exam-style questions. As noted, "more practice before the exam is recommended given the amount of content," but rushed reading meant connections between topics like inflation and unemployment were missed.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 Maths student often left calculation steps out—especially when dividing fractions—which led to "unnecessary mistakes" in multi-step problems.

For a Year 7 English task, another learner skimmed texts quickly, missing key similarities and differences; this left writing disjointed and lacking evidence for main ideas.

Recent Achievements

A Concord West tutor recently noticed Khai, a senior student, making significant strides in Economics—he went from hesitating over unfamiliar business terms to confidently inferring meanings and leading strong discussions about funding sources.

In Year 11 Business Studies, another student who previously wrote mainly descriptive responses has begun shifting towards more analytical writing after targeted feedback.

Meanwhile, Zarraf in primary English sessions now maintains eye contact and expands on his ideas when prompted; this marks a big change from earlier reluctance to share during oral tasks. Last session, he even used contextual clues to infer the meaning of challenging new words.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Ambrose Catholic Primary School.
