The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create a general interest for the subject they're studying, where the student does not dread their tutoring time but instead look forward to learning more and more. In my opinion, tutoring is not only about improving the student's grades or having extra help, but it is also a way to…

I also feel that it is important for a tutor to ensure that they are teaching in a manner that their students are able to understand and use to improve both their knowledge and academic…

Help support the student so that tutoring does not become another point of stress for the student. It is important to be patient with a student; they won't always understand what is being taught and as a tutor you need to be able to explain something in a way that they will understand the concept. I think it's also crucial that the tutor is organised; arrives a few minutes early and knows what they will be going through and brings any…

A tutor should be able to understand the exact problems the student has regarding the study material. After the tutoring session the student should be able to teach the learning material to someone else on their own. That is the level of confidence and comprehension that a student should receive during a tutoring session. An effective study…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create an environment where learning is not something that takes effort, but rather comes naturally and is an enjoyable activity. Inside CoogeeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chinnu worked on mastering times tables and explored the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages by graphing results.

For Year 10, Daniel reviewed parabolas and quadratic equations, focusing on both problem-solving strategies and pre-test revision.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled matrices and vectors from her recent assessments, along with a targeted review of key topics that appeared in her test materials.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 mathematics, one student tended to do most calculations mentally, which led to missed steps and inconsistent results—"he needs a method that suits him but shows working," as a tutor observed.

In English (Year 7), another found it difficult to organize ideas on paper, resulting in long, confusing stories; focus drifted especially when writing dialogue or solving worded math problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student hesitated to communicate confusion in class and rarely asked for help, making persistent gaps harder to address before assessments. The silence lingered even after lessons ended.

Recent Achievements

One Coogee tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help; now, she's openly requesting clarification on tricky questions and working through problems independently.

Another high schooler, Harrison, moved from struggling to identify key features of parabolas in week one to confidently pinpointing them by week two—showing clear progress in understanding quadratics.

In primary sessions, Bander surprised his tutor by applying new creative writing techniques at home between lessons, showing initiative and ownership over his learning that wasn't there before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Spearwood Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coogee Primary School.
