The number one most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is make sure that the student builds a strong understanding of the content. There is a difference between knowing how to work out a problem, and why a problem is solved the way it is. I think that when you understand the why instead of just how it becomes very simple to…

A tutor should illuminate the skills, information and methodology on which academic excellence is predicated, thus enabling students to undertake work with confidence and awareness. The communication of this guidance -- and the guidance itself -- should be tailored to the individual's own needs. I am perceptive, patient, and good at articulating…

The tutor needs to know his/her tutee first, including the tutee's learning style. Building a good rapport is also imperative for the tutee to feel comfortable so that learning becomes more meaningful for them. I am focused on the goal of helping the tutee learn and understand the concept. I am patient and would always exhaust the different…

I believe that tutors must have a good attitude and genuinely enjoy the concepts and the subject. Without this, the student will most likely find the tutoring bland and boring, which would reduce their engagement and their overall performance and knowledge in the subject. My experience as a tennis coach has shown me how different students learn at…

Motivating a student is arguably even more important. Any assistance is meaningless if an individual doesn't have a desire to learn. Helping a student to understand what they want to learn and why is the thing I value above all as a teacher. I feel that I have a firm grasp on mathematics that would be useful to share with others. I have a desire…

I believe the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to teach themselves. Instead of spoon-feeding students the answers to specific questions, a good tutor helps students understand how to think to devise a solution for any problem they encounter. Being only 18 years old and currently in Year 12, I thoroughly…

The most important this that a maths tutor can do for a student, is to keep in mind that tutoring is not the same as giving a lecture. That needs to be reflected in the adaptation of the tutoring session to the individual student. This can be done by lowering or raising the level if needed, speeding up or slowing down, and providing precise…

A tutor MUST make the student comfortable with their learning by building a friendship with them, so that they always want to return to EZY Math Tutoring. A tutor must also put aside everything else in their life to assist the student: even if I have a bad day I cannot let that lessen my performance while teaching the student. Finally, a maths…

I believe it is crucial for tutors to understand that every student is unique and has different learning journeys. Thus, tailoring your approach to meet the specific needs of the students by providing a variety of learning tools and strategies is key. Additionally, being able to be their support system and create an environment for them where they…

First of all, a maths tutor needs to build the teacher-student relationship in order to build trust and comfort in the learning space. A tutor should never see a student as weak, but rather, should see a student as progressive. A tutor should encourage and properly guide the student to better comprehend concepts in the subject being taught. A…

Inside Coromandel ValleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ella worked through fraction operations and practiced division and multiplication with currency word problems.

In Year 10, Jacob focused on trigonometric equations and explored applications of circular geometry, using diagrams to clarify concepts.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel tackled double derivatives and equations of the tangent, applying differentiation techniques to curve sketching scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student showed difficulty retaining key steps from one week to the next, particularly with division and time conversions—"he could work through a problem together, but later forgot the method on his own."

In Year 11 Physics, incomplete revision between sessions meant formulas for circular motion and gravitation weren't fully memorised, leading to slow question attempts before tests.

For a Year 12 Methods assignment, falling behind on content left less time for their investigation write-up.

In each case, gaps in independent practice or revision resulted in last-minute stress and slower progress during critical tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Coromandel Valley tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask questions now actively requests clarification when working through kinematics problems, leading to stronger retention of new material.

A Year 8 student recently made a clear shift from guessing at division answers to confidently explaining their steps out loud, showing real growth in independent problem-solving.

In a senior physics session, a student struggling with magnetic induction concepts was able to accurately describe the process and apply it without prompts by the end of the lesson.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Hi Erica, everything good so far. Isaac is lovely and Adam appears to be relating well to him. He has had 2 recent Math tests and has seemed more relaxed about them so I think we're seeing some short term gains already.

Hi Erica, Yes all seems to be going well with Sean's tutoring. He responds well to Andy. Thanks

I came to work for Ezy Math towards the end of my first year of university to gain more experience for my degree and resume, and to keep an on-going job with other jobs which came and went over the years. I was able to deal with various teaching and learning situations which have informed the way I deal with students in the classroom. I'm much more articulate and authoritative when dealing with potentially difficult situations. In terms of expectations, I'm able to plan, organise and set expectations of students' goals as a result of some bad experiences which, overall, have contributed to my own skills as a teacher/tutor. I would recommend Ezy Math to students who need help. To other tutors, sometimes it may be tough, and students may be difficult, but overall the experience is great and you'll learn a lot about being an independent worker and developing interpersonal skills which you'll need for future jobs and later years of university. It is particularly rewarding with students - seeing improvements about the way they view and approach Math as a subject, and even enjoying it as a subject. For clients, Ezy Math tutors will work with you to help your child's needs. In the long term, I know that the process of tutoring with Ezy Math should assist or allow you to better understand your child's learning needs. Overall,  Ezy Math gave me starting experience which over the years has lead to other jobs. Now I continue to private tutor, and work with particular tutoring companies which cater to selective school students. I started as a first year and now I'm in 4th year honours student. I think that Ezy Math is a great way to start off and a great way to learn responsibility and job balance as a first, second or even third year university student.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blackwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Craigburn Primary School.
