English Tutor Annandale, QLD
I believe that an english tutor should be able to assist in building confidence in their students' abilities and should encourage learning from both mistakes and criticism, as well as taking these aspects in a positive manner. I think that a tutor's job is to both work on their students' educational needs but also build strong soft skills in terms…

English Tutor
One of the most important things a tutor can do is motivate the student and help build their love for the subject. Helping the student let go of their fear of the subject can not only help them in the present but also aid them in their future endeavours. I personally am aware of the feeling of fearing a subject but also conquering this fear by…

Inside CranbrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sophia focused on simplifying index laws and evaluating decimals, using recent school test material to target problem areas.

In Year 9, Eve worked through all the trigonometry questions from her past exam, with extra support for tackling both familiar and unfamiliar similarity and congruence problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Isaac concentrated on chemistry, specifically understanding ionic and covalent bond interactions and determining chemical formulas for various compounds.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 trigonometry, a student struggled to explain why cos 55° is greater than cos 65°, showing uncertainty in justifying mathematical reasoning—"she answered but couldn't explain her logic."

In Year 7 science, another was unprepared for the session, not having their online textbook open; this delayed progress as time was spent searching for resources.

Several high school students (Years 8–11) did not complete assigned homework across multiple weeks, resulting in missed practice with sign rules and graphing tasks.

In English (Year 12), incomplete planning led to weak thesis statements and poorly linked body paragraphs.

Recent Achievements

A Cranbrook tutor noticed that Jacinta, a Year 11 student, has become much more proactive in her English sessions—she now arrives with her essay drafts already revised based on schoolteacher feedback and brings thoughtful questions about thesis writing, which wasn't the case at the start of term.

In a recent high school maths lesson, Lauren independently tackled new Pythagorean theorem problems after initially needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, Eve (Year 8) recently recognised and corrected mistakes from her last school test during tutoring, finishing all related textbook exercises without hesitation.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Flynn is going well with his tutor. We have had 2 sessions and they have been productive. Thanks for your service.

Finn is responding well to Anthony's tutoring, thank you. Anthony is kind, knowledgeable and has a lovely manner. Finn is feeling more confident and we will be continuing with Anthony's weekly tutorials.

We are so happy and impressed with Pariese. She has already made a great rapport with Charlie, which was our initial concern. She is both both professional and engaging with an obvious passion for maths. She has given us feedback relating to Charlie's learning style and is active in finding strategies to suit him. The fact that he looks forward to his lesson, is a testament in itself. She is always punctual and happy to have a brief at the end of each session. I have spoken to Pariese about Charlie needing long term tutoring, to which she agreed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Aitkenvale—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cranbrook State School.
