A tutor should always seek to understand a students' capabilities and limitations first, before anything. A tutor should also always try to make learning fun and engaging for the student. Examples include bright visuals, kinematics and learning journeys. Lastly, a tutor should always seek to learn together with the student, an underlying…

Personally speaking, I believe a tutor needs to have great patience, a certain level of flexibility, and the ability to inspire and motivate students while building up their confidence. I highly value and encourage critical and independent thinking. A tutor should guide students to think first, and then take them slowly through the process and…

The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. Well-prepared lesson plan before tuition would be my priority and i would try my best to engage students in my lesson. In other words, I would make my lesson as less formal and create a friendly tuition environment rather than a formal classroom. In previous experiences in tutoring, i made my section as a friend-sharing section rather than…

Try make tutoring fun, students no matter how hard you try will not retain information and be willing to learn if they are really against it. So by presenting the content in a fun but still effective manner, it is bound to show results. The most important thing when it comes to content is to not spoon feed them with the right answers, you need…

Learning is all about association. You cannot go to C without having to go through A and B. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to focus on the basics first and only if the basics are clear should the tutor proceed with the new concepts. Individual attention to each student and identifying their individual…

A tutor can be kind and patient with the student and open to any kind of question, however basic it might be and not ridicule the child. The tutor can also repeat the same thing until the student had finally grasped the concept so that they are completely confident. Having grown up around teachers, I have learnt a lot from them. I have learnt to…

Finding the gaps, especially when they are gaps from prior in the scaffolding process that will only amplify over time. Having patience. When students are having a hard time understanding the concept / question / answer, it is important to remain patient and not make them feel bad as that could leave them feeling insecure, which may cause them to give up on learning. It is important to keep their spirits high and encourage them to explore alternative methods of…

A good tutor will be patient as well as a good listener. Addressing the students' queries, errors with honesty yet with empathy. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them discover self-motivation. By fostering a sense of intrinsic drive, students become more willing to delve into and excel in the subjects they love. Inside CremorneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Jonas reviewed algebra concepts and perimeter for both regular and irregular shapes, then worked through an angles worksheet with extension into angle types.

Year 8 Jamie focused on comparing and simplifying fractions, followed by work on percentages, decimals, and how they relate to fractions.

For Year 10 Jonas, lessons included statistics—such as five-number summary analysis—and extending algebra skills using targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, when working through trigonometry and statistics tasks, sometimes left diagrams or graphs missing key labels—one note read, "Remember to write the title for x & y axis & Dun forget to write '0' in the left bottom corner."

In a Year 8 algebra lesson, calculation errors crept in because handwritten numbers (especially 0 and 6) were hard to distinguish; confusion led to time wasted double-checking their own work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often hesitated on multi-step worded problems, showing less confidence and skipping answer checks after finishing. This resulted in avoidable errors persisting across sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Cremorne tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to struggle with statistics; after three weeks reviewing quartiles and box plots, he now finds Q1, median, and Q3 quickly and accurately without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who was hesitant to ask for help has started actively decoding complex algebra word problems on her own and confidently checks her process aloud as she works.

In primary, one Year 6 student recently figured out the formula for the area of a parallelogram himself after an initial explanation—something he'd found confusing before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Richmond Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Girls Grammar - Morris Hall Campus.
