Give their time in order to further assist the student and go the extra mile instead of doing just enough. This can heavily impact the student's learning experience as they know that there is someone willing to help them improve. I believe that there shouldn't be overworking the student but the student shouldn't be too relaxed when working. This…

Be accommodating and accepting of the fact that all students are not the same. Tutors need to equip themselves with multiple strategies, examples and methods to explain to all different kinds of students. I am very patient and resilient in everything I do, including teaching. I have taught students who are child like in their 8th grade up to…

Teaching them the curriculum and making them score higher is not alone enough making them realize what they are capable of. Not every student are good with their IQ, their IQ Capacity does not judge what they can do. All students have a unique personality and skill it's us the tutors should make them understand that they can do a lot more than…

My main goal as a tutor is watch my students improve. Hence the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be their support system. To encourage them during challenging times and to always keep their spirits up so that they will always be motivated to do their best. The best thing a tutor can do for a student is being able to teach the student so well that the student will eventually not need the tutor's intervention regarding a particular subject. The end goal should always be for the student to be self-sufficient meaning, the tutor should not be intervening at every point in the teaching process or else…

Finding the gaps, especially when they are gaps from prior in the scaffolding process that will only amplify over time. Sometimes it is important to take a step or two backwards in that case and often that results in a quicker grasp of current concepts. Paying attention to the small things that make maths (or English) learning enjoyable or not for…

In my opinion, a tutor's prime responsibility is to make the learner comfortable and ready for learning. I strongly believe that teaching doesn't always means learning is taking place. For successful learning, a tutor has to develop love and enthusiasm for learning in his student. A tutor has to make his/ her lessons engaging for the learner to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, adapt to their individual learning style, and make the subject engaging. A tutor should create a safe, supportive environment where the student feels comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes. It’s also important to break down complex…

From my perspective of view, the most important things I can teach a student are the interests in this subject and finding pleasure from it. If that does not work, I will teach students the train of thought when solving different types of questions, summarise the key points and raise efficiency in their learning. I was raised up in another country…

A good tutor will be patient as well as a good listener. Addressing the students' queries, errors with honesty yet with empathy. A good tutor should be willing to be dynamic in their teaching style, so as to engage the learners. Additionally, a tutor should be willing to share their own experiences and draw parallels with their students. I…

Tutors can make the students to understand the topic from the scratch, so as to make sure the kid is able to solve the problems on its own. A tutor can guide and motivate his/her students to achieve their intended goals and help them to create a pathway for their future. With experience and knowledge, a tutor can become the driving force to help the students succeed in their lives. A tutor should have the ability to catch hold the weaknesses of a student, and then they should further…

Inside CremorneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Jonas reviewed algebra concepts and perimeter for both regular and irregular shapes, then worked through an angles worksheet with extension into angle types.

Year 8 Jamie focused on comparing and simplifying fractions, followed by work on percentages, decimals, and how they relate to fractions.

For Year 10 Jonas, lessons included statistics—such as five-number summary analysis—and extending algebra skills using targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, when working through trigonometry and statistics tasks, sometimes left diagrams or graphs missing key labels—one note read, "Remember to write the title for x & y axis & Dun forget to write '0' in the left bottom corner."

In a Year 8 algebra lesson, calculation errors crept in because handwritten numbers (especially 0 and 6) were hard to distinguish; confusion led to time wasted double-checking their own work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often hesitated on multi-step worded problems, showing less confidence and skipping answer checks after finishing. This resulted in avoidable errors persisting across sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Cremorne tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to struggle with statistics; after three weeks reviewing quartiles and box plots, he now finds Q1, median, and Q3 quickly and accurately without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who was hesitant to ask for help has started actively decoding complex algebra word problems on her own and confidently checks her process aloud as she works.

In primary, one Year 6 student recently figured out the formula for the area of a parallelogram himself after an initial explanation—something he'd found confusing before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Richmond Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Girls Grammar - Morris Hall Campus.
