To go an extra step for his students and understand what the student is going through would be the most important things a tutor could do for his students. Because not everyone has the same learning rate, so, keeping patience and helping them with it would be a great way to tutor. What I think my strengths are that I explain a concept from very…

As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. The passion with which the tutor teaches the student matters a lot and this also influences the students influence on the subject. When a tutor teaches the student with passion, the student is definitely going to like the subject and learn with full passion as…

Make concepts easier to understand and grasp for students. To not let the students lose interest in the subject. Students to enjoy their study and stay involved. I connect well with students. I explain concepts in a simpler way that are easy to understand. I am jolly and friendly but not to the point where the student starts ignoring my words.…

I think the most important thing I can do is to consider each children personalities and to provide help according their requirements. As a tutor, I cannot only teach them knowledge but also the way of thinking. I am interested in learning new things, I always keep an open eye to accept other student thoughts. The most important thing a tutor can do is to see what subjects interest the student to bring out the potential of that student in that subject and as I had very bad teachers while growing up I learnt to support and make it easy for the student to understand I have patience in dealing with people and can cater to different variety of people even…

Be an example. Be relaxed, and make the student enjoy the subject without feeling like education is be all end all. Knowledge and grades are only a means to an end, a tutor should make sure the students understand that. I can relate and communicate with students. I understand where they are coming from and what they are trying to…

My main focus is to not just explain the content in a way they really understand the principles behind it and it would not just be memorising the content on the student's part. I also believe that connecting with the student can help the teaching learning process a lot. I am a very understanding person in general. So I am most of the time capable…

Making a student feel comfortable and eager for what they are doing is my priority as a tutor (because Math and Science are interesting!!!). Also, helping the student gain deep knowledge about the field of study is also one of the most important things a tutor can do for their students. This is the first time ever I decided to participate in…

I think the most important things as a tutor are designing a personal learning plan for each student; patient to everyone who has difficulties in learning; willing to share my own experience to help them to build self-confidence; treating students as individuals and helping each to achieve their full potential. To me, the most important thing a tutor can do is to foster a supportive and positive learning environment. This is because it is important to create a safe and encouraging space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improvements. It is also important for the tutor to tailor the teaching approach to each individual…

The most important thing a tutor can do is not to flaunt their own brainpower like a flashy superhero cape. Instead, it’s about helping students discover their own hidden superpowers and showing them how to wield these talents for their own success. Think of it like being a treasure map that leads them to their own buried gems—helping them…

It is very important as a tutor to understand your student. Be his silent friend and connect with him. Read his mental abilities, his interest, observe his qualities and disabilities, his way of learning things. And then try to impart the teaching depending on all these factors. Each student is different and so is the method of teaching. Teaching…

The learnings given by a tutor needs to be tailored as per the student.. Every individual is different, has different interests, has different caliber. We need to understand their potential, unlock it and provide our boost to it. I am a very patient person and understand that i may need to repeat my explanations as needed. Sometimes I might need…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. Although understanding a subject is extremely important, I believe the students' willingness to learn is equally important as trying to teach a student to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to open a rapport that makes them feel safe and understood, an environment where they are not afraid to try and even not afraid to fail, in the knowledge that with help and direction they can try again and do better. With the acceptance that 1 style (or even 10 styles!) of teaching…

I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. Inside CroydonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aryan worked through rearranging linear equations and inequalities, then began graphing straight-line equations.

Another Year 8, Manav, focused on factorising and expanding algebraic expressions with variables and revised dividing fractions and square roots.

For Year 7, Anna tackled area and circumference of circles before moving onto volume calculations for cylinders and other prisms, using diagrams to support her understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student's exercise book was described as "could be a bit more neat with the writing and presenting," making it hard to check working, especially during decimal or algebra questions.

In Year 11, after not long on an assignment, one student gave up—confidence dropped quickly when answers didn't come easily, so revision time was spent worrying rather than reviewing feedback.

For a Year 6 learner, forgetting set homework ("needs more initiative doing set homework") meant missing out on key practice before tests.

A Year 9 student relied on guessing in basic maths rather than careful checking; this led to repeated errors and lost focus mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Croydon noticed one Year 10 student who used to guess answers now takes the time to write out her thinking and talk through stuck points, which has helped her solve worded questions more independently.

Another high school student recently completed all assigned homework ahead of schedule for the first time, showing new initiative compared to earlier weeks when tasks were left unfinished.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who struggled with multi-step problems can now break down multiplication word questions into manageable parts and work them out without prompting—she finished her last set solo for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hindmarsh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's School.
