Most importantly, putting time and efforts after students till their basics are clear is the key for a tutor to use. After clearing the basics, revising and revisiting the already done work is equally important. Having had experience in tutoring, patience is my strength. I think self motivation and hard work are the key to success while mentoring…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to them. I believe that tutoring sessions should be based on the student's needs in a specific subject area, and the only way to understand these needs is to have an honest, open conversation with them. Listening to a student's needs, their preferred learning styles and other factors…

The most important thing tutors can do for a student is to just be there for the student and give their students the motivation and encouragement to work, having a tutor myself those were the things that assisted me in achieving my scores. This kind of motivation and encouragement can then build into other parts of the student's life thus…

Giving the student the tools and forming the basis to improve themselves is crucial. I think forming the student's understanding for answering any sort of question whether it be in English or Maths is necessary for achieving marks that most students cannot gain. While for maths a lot of the questions are based around simply using a formula,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them a sense of confidence when they return the classroom after having something explained to them in a way they can understand. Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. Finding the gaps, especially when they are gaps from prior in the scaffolding process that will only amplify over time. Inside DeepdeneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Bob worked through a summary of key Year 7 Maths concepts to identify strengths and areas needing support, including integers and angles from the start of the Year 8 syllabus.

For a Year 10 student, recent lessons focused on quadratic equations—specifically factorising using grouping methods and the null factor law—and also included expanding expressions and solving equations.

Another high schooler tackled statistics by reviewing standard deviation calculations and working through their school's statistics worksheet for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, a student was observed struggling to apply prime factorisation in square root problems during a practice test; skipping written steps made errors harder to catch.

In VCE Maths Methods, another arrived without their CAS calculator or workbook, which slowed progress on calculus tasks and left them less able to ask targeted questions.

For a Year 10 algebra lesson, messy working and missing units led to incorrect answers that were difficult to trace—one tutor noted, "they didn't label their answers or show clear reasoning." These habits caused confusion and wasted time revisiting old ground instead of building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Deepdene tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to skip over tricky problems, but now shows their working step-by-step and checks each answer for accuracy.

In a recent session with a Year 8 student, the tutor saw them actively ask questions instead of staying silent when confused—something they'd avoided before—and even correct their own mistakes without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised their tutor by solving money word problems independently after struggling with basic addition just weeks earlier.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Very happy with tutoring, Charles has been very helpful. Gilda and Charles are working well together.

We came to Ezymaths because our son has problems understanding some of the year 8 topics. When I contacted the company, the customer service staff was very understanding and spent time listening to my problems with my son's attitude towards Maths subject. He answered all my questions and removed any doubt I had about the success of a tutoring service to my son in our own home. My son was very happy with the first meeting with Amy and the second meeting he started to warm up. The 3rd meeting, he was already asking questions and was able to do his homework independently because he understood the concept. He said that the tutor's explanation about the topic was very clear and he now have better understanding of the concepts. Since he is in the top class, he found that they move very fast to the next topic in class and appreciated the one on one lesson from his tutor and the convenience that he doesn't have to go anywhere. The company is very easy to deal with. No pressure nor hassle from the company. I would recommend parents to talk to Ezymaths if their children have problems in Math or if the children want to improve their grades. I will definitely call Ezymaths again when my son encounters difficulty with certain topics in class.

Thank you for following up the tuition, actually we are very pleased with Joyce. Matilda says Joyce is very well organised ,uses proper techniques and tries to covers all problem areas. So far all is good & we are looking forward to a good outcome.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balwyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Good Counsel School.
