If you ask me, simplifying the concepts is the major task for a tutor. Just not the concepts but individual attention to the weaknesses and elimination of the same is a must to be a good tutor. Simplification of concepts and integration of the concept with real-world problems so that the learner could relate and understand the application of the…

In my opinion a tutor's most important trait is being able to communicate with the student and solve their problems that they may be too shy/afraid to ask the teacher. In a smaller classroom set up, it's important that the tutor get more 1 on 1 time with each student and thus able to know them better. I'm very approachable and friendly.…

To be able to consistently and persistently encourage them. Never discourage them or any of their failures. Point out their good values rather than poking their bad ones. Love them unconditionally by treating them like one of my own kids thus, having full faith in their potential. I see all of my students as a successful individual. I do my best…

I think a tutor is a map for the pathway of the student's success. The tutor will do all within their limit to make sure they have given enough importance to the student to excel. This includes the peripheral knowledge that a student should have surrounding the content/topic - which means what is the purpose of learning/ how is it going to help…

I believe the 3 most important things a tutor can do for a student is: 1. being fluent with the content, 2. giving moral support when necessary and 3. create a sort of friendship with the student. I think my biggest strength as a tutor is to be able to teach via understanding content rather then rope learning, which i think is an imperative…

I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to allow the student to feel free to ask questions and to query explanations. This way, it allows for me to answer their initial query as well as giving me the opportunity to proactively infer other areas that they may not completely understand. My strengths are centred…

First and foremost would be making the students realize that every question they come up with is very important and they should not hold back until they have clarified their doubts. Implementing new methods to teach the relevant concepts until the student is confident that he/she had understood it well. Making students self-assured in…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is be friendly and patient with their students. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is have the wisdom to be able to solve the problems which they cannot. Because if a tutor can't even do this, then everything else is pretty much irrelevant. Furthermore, having the ability to explain concepts is also very important as you can't be a great tutor if you can't explain things well…

It is important for a tutor to be a good listener and finding the best route to achieve the best result. Based on individuals, we need to understand their real struggle and making plan accordingly. To inspire a student to be curious and develop a love of learning, as people are not often motivated to improve in areas in which they lack passion. Inside DeepdeneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Bob worked through a summary of key Year 7 Maths concepts to identify strengths and areas needing support, including integers and angles from the start of the Year 8 syllabus.

For a Year 10 student, recent lessons focused on quadratic equations—specifically factorising using grouping methods and the null factor law—and also included expanding expressions and solving equations.

Another high schooler tackled statistics by reviewing standard deviation calculations and working through their school's statistics worksheet for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, a student was observed struggling to apply prime factorisation in square root problems during a practice test; skipping written steps made errors harder to catch.

In VCE Maths Methods, another arrived without their CAS calculator or workbook, which slowed progress on calculus tasks and left them less able to ask targeted questions.

For a Year 10 algebra lesson, messy working and missing units led to incorrect answers that were difficult to trace—one tutor noted, "they didn't label their answers or show clear reasoning." These habits caused confusion and wasted time revisiting old ground instead of building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Deepdene tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to skip over tricky problems, but now shows their working step-by-step and checks each answer for accuracy.

In a recent session with a Year 8 student, the tutor saw them actively ask questions instead of staying silent when confused—something they'd avoided before—and even correct their own mistakes without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised their tutor by solving money word problems independently after struggling with basic addition just weeks earlier.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

It's my first time ever tutoring primary school and high school students formally. I admit I was quite nervous at the beginning and I thought the parents would have been highly demanding. I found that the parents are extremely cooperative and the whole work environment is very flexible. I devolped my Communication skills, especially with younger kids and their parents. I believe in this era, face-to-face conversation is overlooked by many thanks to the advanced technologies but the tutoring experience strengthen my belief that face-to-face communication is still the best way to communicate and share ideas.

Things have been fantastic, Anisa is such a help and we are so happy with her. Christian is going very well, we are so glad we found you guys.

Thank you to Ezy Math Tutoring for providing an excellent service and an excellent tutor. My child needed support in VCE English and History. I contacted Ezy Math Tutoring after researching tutoring services on the Internet. The tutor organised brilliant lessons. She encouraged and supported my child through her final year of secondary school. As a result, my child got an ATAR score needed for the course she wanted to do and will be attending her preferred university.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balwyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Good Counsel School.
