Angie, Denistone West

Inside Denistone WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student John focused on mastering addition, multiplication, and division of fractions, along with practice simplifying fractions using short quizzes and step-by-step examples.

In Year 11, Amber worked through financial mathematics topics including loans and annuities, tackling loan repayment tables and real-world calculation exercises from Chapter 4.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Hannah concentrated on advanced trigonometry questions—specifically trig graphing and equations—then reviewed log laws by analysing exam-style problems she found challenging in her homework.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, one student repeatedly tried to solve fraction problems mentally rather than writing out steps; as a tutor noted, "when taken through the steps he is able to complete them, however struggled when he attempted to do the question in his head." This led to confusion and errors.

In Year 12 economics, another student's notes showed limited use of subject-specific terminology—terms like 'balance of payments' were not consistently recorded or reviewed, which slowed their progress on more complex questions.

For a Year 11 physics lesson, missing foundational definitions (such as volts and resistance) meant exam-style circuit problems took longer than expected.

Recent Achievements

A Year 11 student in Denistone West, who was initially unsure about integrating logarithms, became much more confident applying the reverse chain rule after some practice. She even started tackling tougher questions on her own.

Another high school student showed real progress in economics; after previously mixing up interest rates and monetary policy, he could now explain how changes by the RBA affect investment and exchange rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who used to rush through maths problems is now carefully showing all his working out rather than just aiming for the answer.

What they say about our tutoring

quote
