In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build a positive relationship and establish trust, understand the student's needs and learning style, provide clear and concise explanations, foster a love for learning, and provide regular and constructive feedback. These steps help create a supportive learning…

Structure what needs to be taught in a way that is personalised to the strengths of the student. There isn't a one size fits all way of teaching, so i believe the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is learn their strengths and how they learn best, and then adjust the topic in a way that helps them learn in an easier way. I am…

Being understanding, compassionate, and encouraging. Having someone in your corner who fully believes in you makes an absolute world of difference. I believe the best tutors are more mentors than teachers. A tutor should make sure every student is comfortable to participate in the learning experience. Students and parents expect a tutor to deliver personalised attention and guidance. A tutor should be able to deliver such service. A good tutor would make learning easier by involving the class…

I must be able to make the student confident about the subject and also enjoy the learning process at the same time. This can be done in many interesting ways. The tutor has to create a positive and encouraging learning environment for the student, so that the students enjoy learning new topics. A tutor also has to be willing to support the student's learning by employing different techniques such as whiteboarding, audio-visual learning aids, active-recall, etc. I am an optimistic and encouraging…

Patience and an emphatic approach to teaching are essential for a tutor. Students may lack confidence, be overwhelmed with material, and be stressed. Therefore, it's important to be considerate and patient. This approach can also help understand students' misconceptions and errors by being patient, and listening to students can reveal what areas…

A tutor should accept the student's skill level and understanding capacity and should always keep them encouraged towards positivity. He or she needs to boost the student's confidence to thrive for success without creating a sense of fear or pressure. A tutor also needs to create lessons that can make the learning process interesting and not…

Inside Denman ProspectTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Andrew focused on mastering differentiation using chain, product, and quotient rules, and applied these to identify stationary points in calculus problems.

In Year 12, Lily worked through probability topics including sample space, conditional probability, and the Binomial Distribution—tackling both theory and exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sam reviewed laws of indices and practiced solving exponential equations, reinforcing key algebraic skills for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in calculus was seen to panic when faced with multiple formulas, sometimes skipping key steps—one tutor noted, "he jumped ahead in long questions and missed crucial symbols."

In a recent Year 12 exam, another student lost marks by failing to read the full question and leaving some parts unanswered, showing signs of poor time management under pressure.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 learner relied heavily on a calculator for basic multiplications and squares; this slowed down progress during timed assessments. In these moments, confusion or hesitation replaced confidence and momentum.

Recent Achievements

One Denman Prospect tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to skip tricky calculus questions now methodically work through each step, leading to fewer mistakes on practice exams.

In Year 10, Sami—who previously hesitated to try extra problems—has begun creating his own maths questions by modifying class examples, which helped him better understand parabolas and stick with tough tasks until he solved at least one of each type.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student recently started spotting her own errors during revision instead of waiting for hints, finishing her last worksheet without any reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I wanted to send a quick note to advise how impressed I was with the young man who visited our home to commence tutoring my son Samuel last week, Darius.  He was absolutely delightful and both Sam and I are looking forward to improving Sam's math with Darius' assistance and support this year.  Although it was our initial meeting with Darius I feel that he will be an excellent role model for my son moving forward.

Ezy Math Tutoring was an excellent service for my daughter who had been finding maths hard.   It provides one on one tuition at the home of the student and the tutors tailor the work directly to the needs of that student.    I recommend Ezy Math Tutoring as it is well organised,  efficient and highly convenient.    Our tutor was very patient and helpful and our daughter's maths grades improved.  In addition, we received progress reports, and information regarding further maths resources.

Ally seems to have settled in very well with Ben and enjoys learning with him. She finds that he is easy to understand and explains mathematical concepts well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belconnen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Evelyn Scott School.
