I think the most important thing a tutor can do is be supportive. All behaviour is belief driven, if a tutor convinces a pupil that he can do it, he will. I believe I am calm, patient, persevering, and supportive. Especially when it comes to perseverance, I will not be deterred if a student doesn't originally understand my explanations as, if I…

The most important thing to do for a student is to be supportive and patient when teaching them. We have all been there before. Always be kind. My greatest strength is that I am highly empathetic and I can put myself in my students shoes when they struggle in grasping a certain concept. I am very patient and can reassure them that I was once there…

I believe that a tutor should be extremely cautious in what they say; can everything be supported with a logical statement? Because the steps the tutors take to construct the answer are how the students learn from them, a tutor must prepare well and be confident and knowledgeable of what they are giving to the students. It's not about providing…

I think adapting to students learning style is vital to allow for the most growth in their education. Tutors are exceptionally valuable as the one on one or small class dynamics allow for the specific needs of a student to be catered for, giving their learning attention in a way that can be difficult to access within the schooling system alone.…

I think patience is the most important skill a tutor can have. Some students don't understand a concept right away, I had to have a concept explained to me multiple times before and if the tutor was patient I was not scared to ask. The best thing that a tutor can do for a student is not to regurgitate information - that can be found by reading a book, or browsing the internet; but to inspire. I believe that a perspective can be most powerfully shared by someone who has seen and understood, who can empathize with the struggles that are necessary to get to seeing the solution…

Inside Dolls PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student focused on solving trigonometric equations with one unknown using sine, cosine, and tangent, then applied these skills to worded trigonometry problems.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Fatima practised balancing chemical and net ionic equations alongside calculating molar mass and limiting reagents.

For a Year 12 student, recent lessons concentrated on acids and bases with particular attention to titration methods and interpreting results from practical experiments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student, as a tutor noted, "does not study anything of what we cover during the week," so sessions often repeat previous material instead of progressing.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting key formulas like the trapezoidal rule meant extra time spent revisiting old content before tackling new exam questions.

A Year 5 learner misplaced homework by writing it on scraps rather than in the assigned booklet, leading to unfinished spelling tasks.

Meanwhile, one Year 7 student hesitated to write out steps in algebra due to fear of making mistakes—this slowed their ability to check and correct errors when practicing equations.

Recent Achievements

One Dolls Point tutor recently saw a high school student, who previously relied heavily on guidance, begin to solve problems independently and clearly explain each step back—she even kept her notes more organised than before and was fully aware of her upcoming assessments.

Another secondary student, after struggling with titration calculations in chemistry, managed to work through practice questions until she could complete them accurately on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who had difficulty remembering spelling patterns earlier in the term spelled every word on his list with 100% accuracy and finished all ten words without mistakes.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I would like to say that Sultan was a fantastic tutor for Daniel and I feel sad to have to end the tutoring with him. In the short time that he was tutoring Daniel, Daniel learnt a lot in maths. Could you please let Sultan know and please let him know how happy I was with him as a tutor for Daniel.

Vibhuti has been good so far, very nice and punctual. My daughter seems to get along with her well and I imagine they will get more productive as the time passes.

So far, so good with Jie tutoring Charlie. Jie is professional, organised, and has warm and friendly nature.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Scots College, Brighton Preparatory School.
